Minicraft 1/144 DC-6B (14459 - Civil Air Transport)

Decals printed by Microscale.

(update june 1, '04)

I've looked at the parts and both sides of the fuselage suffer from large bumps, mismouldings that will need to be sanded out, the kit is not up to today's standards and will need a fair amount of work to get acceptable. (update february 17th, '06)

Fuselage glued and testfitted to wings. I have done some sanding to get the fuselage more even, and I will focus on the seams now. (update february 19th, '06)

Take care when assembling the engines because they are assymetrical from the exhausts holes and off course I glued the wrong halves together. These holes are away from the fuselage side so you need 2 left and 2 right engines. They are difficult to clean up properly but I succeeded almost without putty. (update march 9th, '06)

Before you close the fuselage make sure to add enough noseweight because this is a real tailsitter.

After dipping the clear front window in future, I painted the inside with Tamiya clear smoke so that you can't see inside the plane. Then attach it with superglue and start sanding the whole thing smooth up to 2000 grid sandpaper. Then mask off the windows. (update april 19th, '06)

Then to the paintshop for a coat of Tamiya white fine surface primer, this is a very good covering and smooth solution for large white surfaces.

I managed to superglue the engines on the wrong sides, I will have to stop the build until I find some CA debonder. Really stupid I know, I wanted to throw it to the wall but that would not be a good solution, oh well... ;-) (update april 27th, '06)

I couldn't remove the engines anymore, they were completely stuck. I will leave them as they are, too bad but things happen. So I went on and masked off upper fuselage half.

Sprayed lower fuselage and removed masking tape. (update may 19th, '06)

Decals on followed by glosscoat with future/klir

Landing gear added, plane can sit on it's feet now. (update april 14th, '07)

adding small bits, finishing of the model

Not a very good kit, but once finished I can live with the result, the decals are making it worthwile to finish it. (update april 16th, '07)
