With it's raised panel lines it's getting dated for todays standard, although it's not a bad kit, it needs some work to get a clean look, a new mould would be very welcome. This kit doesn't have the LEX mods and the sharknose, watch out which version you plan to build. Cutting-Edge has a resin set with the sharknose and extended LEX tips if you want to build such a modified plane. I opted to do without as I couldn't find the set around here. Blackbox did a resin cockpit if you want to get an some extra detail. I'm gonna built it basically OOB and leave the canopy closed, but I did a fair amount of work to rescribe it and lots of sanding to get everything smooth.

After basic assembly I preshaded the model with black.

Then I used Humbrol oak 71 for the sand color, followed by a second coat with some white added to get some variation.

Then the brown section where masked off with blu-tack (time consuming and messy work) and I used Humbrol dark earth 29 for initial outlining.

Then I added Humbrol leather 62 to the dark earth 29 and filled in the spots.

Removal of blu-tack, some touchups and cleaning up some overspray

Now futured & decaled :

(update August 1st, '05)

ACMI pod : made from a cotton stick, a reshaped end of BBQ wood stick and tip from stretched sprue, some adhesive metal foil :

The numbers are freehand done with a 0.05 mm marker, but my hands are a bit shaky, (I should have printed them on decal paper, better next time) the white dots are cut from paper and glued with future (but white decalsheet would be better) (update August 5th, '05)

I did the panels with an oil wash, put the landing gear on, exhaust area painted, wingtips and droptank :

Next I will put on the ACMI pod and then flat a coat, and then finally the canopy & lights (update August 15th, '05)
