Verlinden Guard Sapper Dutch Grenadier 200mm scale bust N°1463

Some buildup pics :

Parts are cleaned up and some white primer (Tamiya fine surface primer) has been applied as a base coat for the white areas.

The kit has only 5 parts but as you can see the casting is superb !

first color is Humbrol 63 (sand) applied by airbrush, it's rather dark for skin color but this will be lightened by following coats

Next is Revell 9 anthracite black undercoat for the hat and the beard, now painted with hand brush

Next is picking out the red areas, it looks a bit messy at this stage but that is the way I work ;-)

Mixed some red paint to become pink for the lips.

Backpack painted in base colors with enamels

Gold painting session was the hardest part, needs 2 hours of concentration and patience

Now all the base colors are painted with enamels, I continue with oils to add shades and depth.

The face and has been painted with oils, the beard got some gray tints and the white uniform some shadows.

The backpack is further painted with oils.

Now I will let the oils dry before go on adding some oil washes. (update april 15, '04)

The stand got some brown oil paint over the humbrol 63 sand colour, making it ressemble wood.

I added some washes and a final dull coat, and some gloss for in the eyes.

The figure is finished, I'm happy with my first oil paintings but I have a lot to learn, it's time to look out for a new figure subject. (update June 13, '04)

I wrote an article for Modellingmadness.com : look here (Thanks to Scott Van Aken, editor)
