We live in Sint Andries, a suburb of the medieval city of Brugge (Bruges, in English), also called the Venice of the North because of its network of canals. Brugge is the capital city of West Flanders, one of the five provinces of Flanders.
Brugge and the Flanders region in general enjoys a maritime climate with mostly moderate winters and fairly cool summers. Brugge is located in the USDA 8 zone (temperatures : 8a : 10 to 15 F or -9.5 to -12.2 C ), which is mild enough to keep some palm trees (unprotected) and banana plants (protected) in the garden. Also some succulents like Yucca (unprotected), Agaves (protected) and fern trees (protected) do easily survive the winter period and thrive well during summer.
