DVD and book recommendations

If you want to complement your regular Pilates class

with Pilates exercises at home

or simply learn more about Pilates,

you may find these recommendations helpful.

The Anatomy of Pilates

I am reading this book for you right now ... will write what I think when I finish.

Classical Pilates Technique: The Complete Mat Workout Series - Peter Fiasca

If you can get your hands on this DVD, it is definitely worth it. It comprises the complete Pilates mat workout, from basic to super advanced, demonstrated in a clear and very esthetical way. This is classical Pilates at its best, performed by some of the world's leading Pilates experts.

If you have never done Pilates before, you may find the exercises hard to copy. As soon as you have taken some classes with an experienced Pilates instructor though, this DVD is great to guide you when exercising at home.

Pilates Intermediate Mat Workout - Ana Cabán

Lighter and more colourful than the above DVD, this intermediate mat workout with Ana Cabán is one of the better workout-at-home DVD's. The instructions are very clear and easy to follow. The pace is perfect and the set of true Pilates exercises is entertaining enough to keep getting you on the mat at home.

Even though it is an intermediate workout, it is also a good choice for beginners: modifications are demonstrated which make the exercises more feasible for beginners - but just as powerful!

Pilates Body in Motion - Alycea Ungaro

Excellent book! It covers both theory and well explained exercises giving both the unexperienced and the Pilates expert a good insight into the Pilates method and a great guide to workout at home.

Written by Alycea Ungaro, a New York based owner of a reputable classical Pilates studio.

Your ultimate Pilates Body Challenge - Brooke Siler

A good choice to learn about Pilates and how to practise it at home and at the gym, with or without equipment.

Not in the least, author Brooke Siler also clearly explains how you can incorporate Pilates into your everyday life - warmly recommended!

Nothing can beat a classical style Pilates class. Classes are dynamic, flowing and focused. Forget about boring endless repetitions! While doing the exercises you will have fun, never be bored and yet, almost unnoticed, your body will have worked hard.
