Royal Lily Pad - A great many gardeners have taken to adding ponds and other water spots to their overall garden décor themes. Consequently, water lilies of various sorts are becoming in greater demand all of the time. One of the most popular type of lily that is found in many ponds at this point in time is the royal lily pad and plant.
When reference is made to the so-called royal lily pad, it more often than not is reference to a western Chinese lily. The scientific name of this royal lily pad, this western Chinese lily, is Lilium regale. Lilium regale is, of course, Latin for royal lily.
The royal lily pad and royal lily has umbels which are very large. To the uninitiated, an umbel is a plant in which the flower stalks all arise from a single point. In this instance, all flower stalks on the royal lily arise from the same point on the royal lily pad.
The flowers that emanate from the royal lily pad are funnel shaped. The flowers that grown from a royal lily pad are considered wonderful fragrant.
The coloration of the flowers on a royal lily pad are spectacular. The flowers are lilac or purple on the outside and white with a yellow base on the inside. It is the lilac or purple coloration -- purple being associated with royalty -- that gives the royal lily pad its name.
As a rule, most people find the royal lily pad rather easy to cultivate and to care for. Indeed, many people enjoy populating their ponds with the royal lily pad because of its hearty nature and natural beauty.
