Circular breathing

This type of breathing requires great skill. That is why you should not use it unless you're sure you know how ! Too often circular breathing is only used to put up a good show, or to steal it. That is why I call circular breathing a (musical) low level type of breathing. Amaze me !

There is also another point of view. Since your breath should support a musical sentence to the end, this musical sentence should also be composed as a very, very, very, very long sentence. Believe it, these sentences exist ! But most sentences don't require circular breathing ! Think about that.

NEVER USE this breathing procedure without having completely mastered all other sorts of breathing ! See : passive - , active - and economical breathing. I'm almost sure that you could solve your breathing problem with these.

But if you need circular breathing ....

  1. Breathe using a passive or active inspiration.
  2. When your lungs are almost empty, push the resting air into your cheeks. They will fill with air and become bulge.
  3. Press your cheeks together blowing this air onto your flute. (Difficult)
  4. At the same time breathe trough your nose. (Very difficult)
  5. After inhaling you can switch back to normal.
