Passive inspiration

This sort of inspiration requires a certain awareness of the player but no extra action. It is the breathing standard.

Delay the next inspiration. It will make your next inspiration a lot better and complete. Not only will you breathe more air in a shorter time, you will be able to play longer than the first time.

Avoid a too long delay after your last expiration, a couple seconds suffice to get your body to react. Waiting too long will only result in pain, AVOID it !

Maybe you're interested in some figures ? These are the average results of all my students doing a passive breathing exercise over a period of a month. This is what they did ; they played a b2 to get all air out of their lungs, then they had to count to 5 before breathing again. Immediately after breathing they played that same b2 again, mezzo forte, for as long as they could. Now for the figures :
