Posture
Since you will mostly practice standing, look for a good
standing posture first.
Tips :
- This is a special for those of you not knowing the
rule of the cheek. This rule assumes you are standing at
aprox. 70 cm. right in front of a music stand. Turn your
whole body to the right, about 30°. You won't see
the stand. Now place your flute parallel to the stand
onto your left cheek. Then only turn your head facing the
stand and place your flute to your lips. Applause !!
Still look through the posture pages for details.
- Move your flute to your head, NOT your head to your
flute !!
- A good posture will help your
breathing.
A sitting posture doesn't
differ a lot from a good standing posture. It is imperative
that you know how to stand if you want to know how to sit !
Please read about a good standing posture first !
Tips :
- Choose a good chair. Easy you think ? A good chair
should have a hard seat, have its seat not too low and
not too high to enable your pelvic bone to be horizontal
to support your backbone.
- Place the chair in front of the music stand at
approx. 70 cm.
- Sit near the front, the tip, of the chair, with your
back free. If the chair tilts forward, choose another
one.
- Keep both feet on the ground.
- Sit like you stand. You should sit with your body
turned some 30 degrees to the right.
- Keep your back straight up.
- Now do the rule of the cheek. For those of you who
don't know it, here it is again. Turn your whole body to
the right, about 30°. You won't see the stand. Now
place your flute parallel to the stand onto your left
cheek. Then only turn your head facing the stand and
place your flute to your lips. Applause !!
