Although the number of sources that inform us of Van den Enden's life and work is considerable, many contain redundant and sometimes unreliable information, and there are several large gaps in the material. This of course poses a difficulty when writing his biography, for which the available source material must be fully explored and evaluated. However, it must be presumed that a substantial part of this material is still sitting in archives, waiting to be unearthed and interpreted.
In the following pages the material collected to date is presented 'as found', that is in its original language and without annotations, apart from a brief introduction at the head of each section. The source material has been chronologically arranged, grouped in some five pages, each relating to a specific period or event in Van den Enden's life (and after). One page has been reserved for a single source, the memoirs of Du Cause de Nazelle, which is still the most elaborate and detailed source on the man Van den Enden. You can access the biographical pages either by using the contents list below or by using the links at the top or bottom of the page.
