Beyond the Mirror review by Wouter Roemers.

Almost 6 years after their apocryphal demo tape “Al Azif” Grinning Ghoul returns with their first demo to be released in cd format. Consisting of 11 brutal tracks and clocking easily around thirty minutes the band delivers a release that’s well worth its price and offers quality as well as quantity. 9 new tracks, 1  acoustic instrumental and 1 re-vamped classic hymn is what we get presented here. Main disadvantage could be the slightly rough recording sound in which certain great details get lost. All the same this won’t stop the true supporters from buying this excellent release. Lyrically the same subjects are featured: ancient occultism, warfare, battle and hatred towards religion. Musically there’s more variation, some thrash influences are incorporated into the whole but this fits them excellently. They offer a well layed-out booklet as well which includes all the lyrics and some fantasy designs. Conclusion? A great underground release well worth its price.
