Al Azif review by Wouter Roemers.

Originating from the remnants of black metal monument Avatar this band brings a total opposite style than it’s progenitors. Inspired by the literature of HP Lovecraft, the Necronomicon and ancient Sumerian occultism Grinning Ghoul delivers 5 tracks of top notch brutal underground death metal in vein of Morbid Angel and Suffocation. Opening track “Lifeless Lady” sets new standards for Belgian death metal and is amongst the best tracks on this blasphemous offering. Grinning Ghoul’s music isn’t meant for trendy ears that are used to mainstream brutal death metal – this goes far beyond! Although the recording sound of this tape is a bit muddy by times it reflects the quality and potential of this great underground act. With a decent recording sound and a good producer this outfit could gain significant success and recognition in the scene.
