Coming of War review by Christian @ Blood of the Ancient (GER)

Somehow you can compare this group`s sound with the also on these pages reviewed French act MUTILHATE, because also GRINNING GHOUL are dedicated to raw underground Thrash Metal with obvious Death hints. Some parts remind very much of Bay Area legends or even Teutonic heroes, but there are also influences of groups like i.e. later DEATH (but without sounding as technical – GRINNING GHOUL create a very straight sound, so beware!) or MALEVOLENT CREATION. But there are also some definite SLAYER-elements you can figure out in this quartet`s song writing. The production is over the top, only the vocals could have been a bit more powerful from time to time. Nevertheless, `Coming Of War` offers four good tunes that don`t sound too special, but quite solid and well-executed.
