Reverse Speech

The phenomenon was discovered in the early eighties by the Australian David John Oates studying tapes playing backwards. Not only was he finding what he was looking for: intentional 'backward masking' messages, but also what more and more seemed to be genuine backward messages.

After a long period of research he finally became convinced that Reverse Speech is the voice of your unconscious mind, the Soul even, which is said to always tell Truth. Generally, it will occur about every 2 to 15 seconds in 'normal speech exchanges' and especially in more emotional ones; you don't get it as often in 'prepared speech'. It seems we are even having entire conversations in Reverse Speech!! So, much points to the conclusion that we are unconsciously communicating in this way and remarkably, a lot of meaning is conveyed through the use of metaphors and archetypes.

Sometimes a whole lot of this Reverse Speech can fly by in just fractions of a second, which can make you doubt even more that we would somehow make sense of it. However, these "gibberish" speeds shouldn't pose any problems to our subconscious understanding of what is being said. From a source nothing to do with Reverse Speech, I've once read the following: "The subconscious mind operates at a speed of about 1200 to 1400 words per minute. This is many times faster than the conscious mind that operates at 250 to 450 WPM (words per minute)." So, that's probably one bit of related information right there.

Also, Reverse Speech may well be one explanation why we can get a feeling about someone, that 'something is not right'. It's the incongruencies in their Reverse Speech that's giving them away. So our unconscious understanding of Reverse Speech actually might be part of what we thought of as our 'intuition'.

Furthermore, it may even warn us or predict stuff. And unconscious knows, so we better pay attention. It can tell us a whole lot about ourselves which we aren't consciously aware of, like the real causes of a lot of our problems. With the aid of hypnosis and visualisation, D.J. Oates claims to have developed a powerful behavioral changing therapy upon it, called Metaphor Restructuring

As you can see, there's much more to it than 'meets the ear', so for starters: don't accept or dismiss this phenomenon without further study, that would be plain stupid. I can recommend you to read at least one of the first three articles here.

Should you want to start using the Reverse Speech Software right away, don't forget to read the protocols so you'll better be able to discern if you've found a genuine reversal. It is our duty to go about this responsibly. If we don't, and start releasing false reversals we'll only be helping to give Reverse Speech a bad name, so it will never be recognized for what it is: a Nobel prize deserving discovery.

I will continue to add my very own reversals right here (with proper caution). You may always send in yours in the correct format (see FAQ) and I'll consider them. But keep in mind: I'm in no way an authority on the subject and don't feel qualified to comment much on my or your findings. I try to find examples that 'reverse speak' for themselves. I started this journey actively in december 2002 and expect to be making quite a few mistakes along the way. However, that's how you learn. I am excited to be a partaker in this kind of research and astonished with what I've found already, so 'the price is right' :-)

Many hundreds of examples can be found at David's site.
Believer or non-believer, I would think you could still be entertained and left TOTALLY AMAZED...!

Another extremely talented guy to check out is Jon Kelly. I like that he uses the original pitch for the slowed down 'reversals', which is something the Reverse Speech Pro software can't do (it lowers the pitch), which they seem to prefer. You could use other quality audio editing software to do it though.
