Education & training

Education

Since early childhood I have enjoyed the purity and clarity of mathematics, the special beauty that can be found in postulating an abstract concept and exploring all of its ramifications. As did the early Greek philosophers, I believe mathematics is the queen of science, with its sometimes obscure insights always finding an unexpected but crucial use in other scientific disciplines. However, I didn't love mathematics that much that I wanted to spend the rest of my life doing it, so after my university degree in mathematics I got a degree in computer sciences. When I left the university, I considered computer programming to be a kind of "mathematics in motion", but when confronted with the harsh realities of business life I soon came to realize that programming is more of a (black) art than a real science.

Training

As a skilled IT specialist, I am well aware how important it is to keep up-to-date with the latest developments in IT tools and technologies. I attend at least a couple of IT seminars each year, preferably on subjects I can immediately use in my professional work. I also spend at least an hour a day visiting IT and general business news sites, and I still devote quite a bit of my free time to experimenting with the latest software tools and cool hardware gadgets.
