Our family |
Sonja (56) and Hans (57) are both high school teachers. Our daughter Silke has moved house since she married in the summer of 2004. In the mean time, we have got 2 lovely grandchildren, aged 3 years and 2 months old (Feb 2010). We enjoy exploring other parts of the world and consider the Homelink basic principle of swopping the best way to do so. We are very experienced exchangers and have made lots of new friends, are non-smokers and have no pets. However we don’t mind looking after the eventual cat. Being very considerate people ourselves, we will look after your property as if it were our own. Our guestbook only shows positive comments. For aerial view of house & city click: |

Our house |
Built in 1985 our detached house is situated in a very quiet, residential estate in Blankenberge, a renowned sea-side resort on the Belgian coast 15 km northwest of Bruges. Having green fingers we have landscaped our garden to high standards and use it as the summer’s “outdoor living room”. There is plenty of garden furniture to enjoy a BBQ or simply relax in. |

The garden seen from different angles |
The dining & sitting room as well as the kitchen give access to the patio and garden. Also on the ground floor are the master bedroom (super king-size waterbed), the main bathroom, an extra separate toilet and garage. |
On the first floor you’ll find 2 more bedrooms :(another super-king + a hobby/storage room with 1 or 2 single beds), a dressing-bathroom (wash basin only), a separate toilet and our large study/hobby room. The house is equipped with all modern appliances, e.g. Miele washing machine, tumble drier & dish washer, micro wave, gas hob and electric fan oven, cable TV, lots of CDs/DVDs as well as a piano. There is a double washing basin, a bath tub with shower and a toilet in the main bathroom . Furthermore, there are bikes, a Weber kettle BBQ , 2 large parasols and deck chairs in the shed. Our street is a very safe one and children can easily play outside. We have plenty of toys to keep the young ones happy. As for baby equipment, there’s a cot, highchair, changing table + safety |

Our neighbourhood, shops, etc |
Locally are 2 bakers, 2 butchers, a grocery, a news agent, an excellent Belgian ‘friterie’ (chips shop). A bit further down the road is a supermarket and down town are numerous restaurants and shops of all kind. There’s a circular city bus service only 5 minutes away from our house which can take you to the railway station and town centre. The large sandy beach and the promenade are definitely the focal point of touristic activity but our city can offer you lots more: sports & leisure facilities, cultural events, a casino, a Sea Life centre, 2 marinas, 2 piers, etc. For more go to www.blankenberge.be |

The region — out and about |
The medieval city of Bruges is obviously the most exciting place to visit and stroll about. Marvellous atmosphere, canals, lots of museums, churches, concerts, cultural events, restaurants and chocolate —and upmarket— shops galore only a 15min. drive away. A bit further afield you can choose between Antwerp—and visit the original place where Rubens lived and worked— Brussels and all its famous landmarks, or Leuven— old university city- as well as Ghent. All are within a 1 hr drive journey on the motorway. Even Amsterdam or Paris are only 3 hr away using the Superfast Railwaylink.
