More than music
…Animal, earth and human liberation will only come through education… (Chokehold)
Indeed, hardcore is more than just music! We’ve once again put together a series of non-musical activities to feed the minds of the politically, socially and ethically active people and to educate those who are oblivious to the matter. Watch out for this year’s ever so cosy and nicely decorated MTM-Stage (More Than Music Stage)! Check it out from time to time, feed your head, feel free to discuss,… We can all learn from each other!
Check the message board in front of the MTM-Stage for a daily update. (Very) subject to change.

11h.> Meeting DeWereldMorgen / MTMcinemaAlternative Media Coverage by DeWereldMorgen
Just like the Alternative Media Coverage of Ieperfest on Indymedia.be last year, Ieperfest will be covered by a group of independent journalists/media activists from the alternative media collective that is now called DeWereldMorgen (TheWorldTomorrow). In a society where traditional media tend to commercialize and avoid social coverage, DeWereldMorgen is an independent organisation that brings daily and reliable news on what’s going (wr)on(g) in our society. By not accepting commercialization for what it is (unbridled capitalism / the root of all evil), DeWereldMorgen can concentrate on what’s really important, on what you should know about this complex world we are all living in. It's a free news website based on the work of volunteers who publish their own news about activism and social movements.
On Ieperfest they will be working as a team, meeting every morning at 11h. to discuss and divide the work, and to publish their pictures and articles of the festival on www.dewereldmorgen.be
And you can join them! If you’d also like to do a report on Ieperfest through your pictures, video, interviews,… and get your stuff posted on DeWereldMorgen.be: great! Meet us at the MTM-stage at 11h. or contact “keltoumATdewereldmorgen.be”.

DeWereldMorgen also invites you to come and discuss some of the topics presented in the MTM-tent. Do join us if you feel like you can contribute! You’re very welcome.
MTMcinema
Ranging from animal and human rights films to documentary films about ecology, social movements, action groups and even some rare footage of underground gigs from all over the world, this might turn out to be quite the cinematic experience – hence MTMcinema.
14h.> Vereniging Bos Vlaanderen presentation / Diabolixx + workshop
Vereniging voor Bos in Vlaanderen (Organisation for Forests in Flanders) presentation
In Belgium, the environment is exposed to intense pressures from human activities: urbanization, dense transportation network, industry, extensive animal breeding and crop cultivation; air and water pollution also have repercussions for neighbouring countries; uncertainties regarding federal and regional responsibilities have slowed progress in tackling environmental challenges.
Vereniging voor Bos in Vlaanderen is here to talk about deforestation and the situation in Belgium/Flanders. How the hell can Belgium –with a Belgian Presidency in the European Union- plea for good forest management worldwide, if we can’t even save our own forests from being cut? Think globally, act locally! Damn right!
Powerpoint in Dutch, presentation in Dutch or English, depending on the audience

Diabolixx + workshop
Every day at 14h. Tim & Vinz will present you their Diabolo skills near the MTM-stage and there will be a few sticks & diabolos available for everyone who wants to give it a go. If you bring your kids with you to the fest, they might enjoy this or plain and simple: Try-It-Yourself. Who was it again, that said: “It’s not how old I am, it’s how old I feel”?

20.30h.> The Cove + Sea Shepherd videofootage
The Cove (Louie Psihoyos , 92 min.) Academy Award Winner for Best Documentary of 2009, THE COVE follows an elite team of activists, filmmakers and freedivers as they embark on a covert mission to penetrate a remote and hidden cove in Taiji, Japan, shining a light on a dark and deadly secret. Utilizing state-of-the-art techniques, including hidden microphones and cameras in fake rocks, the team uncovers how this small seaside village serves as a horrifying microcosm of massive ecological crimes happening worldwide. The result is a provocative mix of investigative journalism, eco-adventure and arresting imagery, adding up to an unforgettable story that has inspired audiences worldwide to action. Sea Shepherd video footage
Sea Shepherd's Mission is to end the destruction of habitat and slaughter of wildlife in the world's oceans to conserve and protect ecosystems and species. Even with the laws in place to protect our oceans, the rape and pillage of the seas continues as governments look the other way. It takes a pirate to catch a pirate, and that's why President and Founder Captain Paul Watson declares, "We are pirates of compassion in pursuit of pirates of profit and greed."

Saturday August 14th
11h.> Meeting DeWereldMorgen / MTMcinema14h.> No Border Camp presentation (1) + Quiz / Diabolixx + workshop
No Border Camp in Brussels:
No Border is neither a formal organisation, nor a normative frame, no Border is first of all a convergence of struggles and a meeting set in a particular moment, in a particular place.
The reason to organise a No Border Camp this year in Brussels is because Belgium has taken presidency of the European council from July 1st until 21st of December 2010. As the capital of Europe, Brussels is the symbol of the development of the European (anti-)migration policy.
The No Border camp in Brussels starts on Saturday 25th of September and ends on the 3th of October 2010 and during this one week we would like to see Brussels swarm with a variety of activities around (anti) migrations policies and their consequences. The camp will be an opportunity to fight together combining different kinds of actions, but also to create common initiatives with a long term vision. We invite all associations and individuals to participate the way they wish, by proposing activities or collaborations.
Our basic principles are:
- Equal rights for everybody!
- No Borders, No Nations!
- Freedom of movement and settlement!
- No-one is illegal!
Presentation in English.
Do join us if you feel like you can contribute, take part in our quiz or just have a listen to what we have to say. Thanks a bunch! More info: http://www.noborderbxl.eu.org/
16h.> EDGE | the movie + Q&A + DeWereldMorgen -discussion: Straight Edge
EDGE | the movie – screening + Q&A + discussion (Marc Pierschel / Michael Kirchner, 82 min.)
Ieperfest will always support the underground hardcore/punk community / DIY-movement. Offering you a screening of the documentary EDGE | the movie is no exception to our concept. Almost since the beginning of the hardcore scene, straight edge has been a point of discussion and controversy, and it affects people in their lives somehow. With this movie, Michael Kir and Marc Pierschel offer you an insight on how several individuals in the hardcore/punk scene, from old school veterans to new ensigns, experience the idea of straight edge. Maybe the content of this subject is new to you or maybe you are a survivor of a generation, in either case, don’t hesitate to check out this movie! People who couldn’t make it to one of the many screenings around the globe, get an unique chance, not only to see the documentary themselves, but to also discuss several points of the movie with the driving forces behind the movie with a Q&A afterwards.

18.30h.> Geert Lenssens: PUKING EMISSIONS
Geert Lenssens: PUKING EMISSIONS
Geert is an anarchist, artist, photographer, performer, activist who lives near Gent, Belgium. At Ieperfest he brings a multimedia performance. He drowns you in psycho-chaotic noise-scapes and sample based industrial/punk/electro/.... while confronting his audience with the apocalyptic future of the madness we live in with his video's based on his strong multi-layered (photo)graphic artwork. To complete the overwhelming of your senses he spits out his anger and frustration in his dark lyrics/poetry, (in Dutch). He takes you from love and hate and insecurity to nuclear weapons, immigration politics and police brutality. All used material, audio/video/text, is his own creation, mostly made with free/open source software. Some of his artwork will be exhibited at the festival and he will also be present at the bookstands where you can buy postcards and a cool poster, not only to support the artist but also to help the activist groups.
20.30h.> Meat the Truth
Meat the Truth (Gertjan Zwanikken, 76 min.)
The documentary Meat the Truth is the first major project undertaken by the Nicolaas G. Pierson Foundation. Meat the Truth is a high-profile documentary, presented by Marianne Thieme (leader of the Party for the Animals), which forms an addendum to earlier films that have been made about climate change. Although such films have convincingly succeeded in drawing public attention to the issue of global warming, they have repeatedly ignored one of the most important causes of climate change, namely: intensive livestock production. Meat the Truth has drawn attention to this by demonstrating that livestock farming generates more greenhouse gas emissions worldwide than all cars, lorries, trains, boats and planes added together.
We’re screening both the Dutch & international version of this film, with subtitles.

16.30h.> 2 or 3 things about Activism
2 or 3 Things about Activism (Dmedia.ro, 73 min.)
Due to an inspiring spoken word by Davin from xKingdomx -which felt like a good finish for the MTM-stage last year- and an amazing gig by Disembodied which followed just after the spoken word, we kind of forgot to screen this documentary. So we’d like to give it another try , because this is really a documentary worth your attention!
2 or 3 Things about Activism is a counter-documentary about activism in Romania that simultaneously questions the difference between making a film about politics and making a film politically. While various protagonists discuss their views on activism, the voiceover reflects on the motivations behind the video.
Film in Romanian, subtitles in English.

We are very honoured to have the following stands on Ieperfest:
A Seed (nl) - www.aseed.net
A SEED Europe (Action for Solidarity, Equality, Environment, and Diversity Europe) is an international campaigning organisation, giving importance to involving youth in direct democracy activities. A SEED Europe targets the structural causes of environmental destruction and social injustice.
We do this by campaigning on multinational corporations and their national and international influence spheres and control tools. At the same time we promote sustainable alternatives. Currently A SEED Europe focuses on issues related to the global food chain and climate change: genetic engineering, soy monocultures, power concentration by global agro/biotech giants, agrofuels and meat consumption, and international financial and trade institutions.
Anarchistisch Kollektief (bel) - www.anarchistischkollektief.wordpress.com
The Anarchist Collective is here at Ieperfest to provide you with info, books and other media concerning the latest news, background info and history. They have a special focus on foreign publications, music and magazines about history, environmental issues, education, atheism, literature, economics and lots of other subjects. Ieperfest advises you to check this out!
Bite Back (bel) - www.biteback.be
Since 2003, Bite Back is striving for the animals and their rights via nonviolent action. Their goal is to campaign for the rights, the needs, the welfare and the vital interests of animals by nonviolent action, especially in Belgium and The Netherlands. This non profit organisation assumes that animals have a value on its own whatever the possible usefulness for humans. Animals are living beings who are able to experience feelings just like human beings. They also support the vegetarian / vegan lifestyle and try to inform the people as much as possible by giving the right and independent information. Visit the information stand on this festival and get informed! Ralph & co will welcome you with open arms!
Roots Of Compassion / EDGE Syndicate (ger) - www.rootsofcompassion.org / www.edgesyndicate.com
What started out as way to promote veganism and animal liberation on a small scale by designing and printing badges and t-shirts evolved slowly in to the next step in 2003, where they started to write about this subject (printed magazines, reviews about books, artists & activists). In 2008 they expanded their work area by establishing a platform for the production and release of movies, books and other form of media. The aim to promote a critical, responsible, rebellious, mindful, self-determined way of life is and will always be the core of Roots Of Compassion. So Ieperfest is honoured to have them at our festival once again! Support this organisation, save a chat for them and inform yourself because knowledge is power!
Sea Shepherd (bel) - www.sea-shepherd.org
Established in 1977, Sea Shepherd Conservation Society (SSCS) is an international non-profit, marine wildlife conservation organization. Our mission is to end the destruction of habitat and slaughter of wildlife in the world's oceans in order to conserve and protect ecosystems and species. Sea Shepherd uses innovative direct-action tactics to investigate, document, and take action when necessary to expose and confront illegal activities on the high seas. By safeguarding the biodiversity of our delicately-balanced ocean ecosystems, Sea Shepherd works to ensure their survival for future generations.
Veg Nord (fra) - www.vegnord.fr
As we want to reach out to everyone on our festival, we don’t forget the French speaking people too! Like last year we invite the people from VegNord once again to present you their efforts concerning the vegetarian/vegan way of life and all its related topics. Backed up by some people from different french magazines and an artistic angel of incidence, they will be there the whole weekend for you!

Oxfam Bar/Shop
Do we really need to introduce Oxfam Fairtrade to you? We hope not, but here goes:
Oxfam Fairtrade is a wholesaler in fair trade food products.
At the current market price, farmers selling their coffee, cacao and sugar do not get sufficient income. Oxfam Fairtrade is fighting against this unfair situation.
Oxfam Fairtrade buys products from organised small or medium-sized producer organisations in the South, paying them a fair price. This fair price is often higher than the current market price and ensures a decent income for the producers .
By collaborating with Oxfam the producer can invest in:
* better agricultural techniques
* product development
* training and education
* health care
* housing
* infrastructure
Oxfam Fairtrade works only with approved producer organisations that are monitored by the non-profit organisation Oxfam-Wereldwinkels.
Apart from a medium-sized Oxfam Bar where you’ll find all the Oxfam-liquids (fruitjuice, biocola, bio-ice tea, wines and stronger beers) , a wide range of Oxfam products will also be available at a fair price in the MoreThanMusic-Tent, you lucky bastards!

Organic Meltdown Chocolate saves trees.
Unlike the fabled Willy Wonka, who offered the world a golden ticket to see his magical chocolate factory, Organic Meltdown's Swiss chocolate is so eco-friendly and so morally-sound, it makes our bars the true "golden ticket" for your own guaranteed ring-side seat in the fight against climate change, and making our world a better place to live. We want organic and Fair-trade chocolate to be more than just a product. Chocolate needs to reflect the rich natural diversity of the tropical forests in the foothills of the Andes Mountains where cocoa beans were first discovered many millennia ago. These forests, the ancestral home of cacao, are threatened with extinction and Organic Meltdown chocolate is the only product of any type to save a living, breathing tropical forest tree for every bar of chocolate we sell.
Ieperfest supports this campaign. In the MTM-tent you'll find some delicious (vegan) chocolate bars. When you buy one bar, you'll save one tree, and you'll take part in the Ieperfest Forest Project!
Some say all they need is love, but a little chocolate now and then doesn't hurt! To all the chocolate lovers out there, pick up a bar and help to save the environment in a very easy and tasty way!
See how many trees Ieperfest has saved already on: www.organicmeltdown.com, and help out!
Ieperfest Zine Library
What started off as a small Zine Library 2 years ago is slowly but surely turning into a decent collection of Zines from around the world. There will be a really cosy reading room near the MTM-stage (thanks to Kringloopwinkel West*). Feel free to read’em here, but put’em back, thanks! We kindly ask everyone who makes musical or pure political zines to bring 2 copies to the tent right next to the distro tent (the MTM-stage). Your zine will be available for everyone to read for the duration of the festival and then taken up into the Ieperfest Zine Library for future editions. A great chance for you to spread the DIY ethics and ideas of our movement and to present your work. If you would like to keep feeding the Ieperfest Zine Library with your zine, please contact us at ‘xpositiveheartxATtelenet.be’ or send them to Ieperfest Zine Library, Postbus 42- 8900 Ieper/Belgium
Welcome to Kringloopwinkel West
In the Kringloopwinkel West, we collect, sort en resell discarded product to stimulate the re-use of goods as well as to create job opportunities for people in need.
We have four shops spread over the regions the Westkust and the Westhoek: in Diksmuide, Ieper, Poperinge and Veurne. All the goods are donated and are collected by us upon telephone calls (078/15.50.05). People can also bring their consumer goods to one of our shops (addresses on our website: www.kringloopwinkelwest.be).
We process all sort of items: textiles, toys, books, CD’s and DVD’s, bicycles, household tools, furniture, electrical and electronic household appliances, etc.
We actually don’t have an internal repair service.
Eventually the re-usable consumer product ends up in one of our shops.
