Favourite Perennials top 10

10. Alchemilla mollis

Such an easy plant that lots of people have the tendency to look down at.

Indeed, it is a plant seeds itself freely but is has no diseases, easy to grow, a beautifull leave, especially with raindrops on it. The flowers go on endlessly with their subtle lime green umbels. They also keep fresh for a long time in a bouquet. If you cut back the flowers immediately after flowering you'll get a second period of blooming later in the year.

9. Stachys macrantha 'Superba'

A plant I particularly like because of the form of the flowers. It flowers in june and is lovely in combination with Allium christophii and Phuopsis stylosa, a combination that is a beautifull eye catcher.

8. Crocosmia 'Lucifer'

A plant that has been around for quite some time now and it has proven its qualities.

A healthy, high plant with a profusion of bright red flowers.
After that it gives beautifull seeds as well.
7. Paeonia 'Bowl of Beauty'

There are som many lovely kinds of Paeonia. The one year I like the huge doubles the best, the other year I prefer the simple beauty of P. 'Bowl of Beauty. Anyway, the perfume of Paeonia's is simply wonderful. They have the tendency to fall to the ground under havy rains, so support them in time. When they have fallen it is not so easy to get them up. It is better then to use them as a cut flower and keep them in a vase inside so you can enjoy their lovely smell.

6. Papaver 'Marlene'

This picture does not do credit to the magnificent color of this Papaver in real life. Dark red- purplish which fades to a velvety pink.

An abundance of flowers during mai and june.

5. Persicaria amplexicaule 'High Society'

Persicaria's stay at my top list of favourite plants. They are great border fillers, not at all sensitive to any disease, grow easily, suppress the weeds underneath and flower for months at a row untill the first frosts kick in. This cultivar has bright pink flowers.

4. Rosa 'Mme. Isaac Pereire'

Of course there must be at least one Rosa in my top list but there are so many beautiful cultivars. I have chosen this one because of the fantastic perfume, this one smells the best of the 45 different kinds in my garden, our whole family agrees on that. The color is beautifull, it is a healthy plant and it gives a second flowering period, end of august untill well in september.

3. Veronicastrum virginicum 'Fascination'

All the Veronicastrums are in my list of favorites, V.v.'Fascination' is my favourite because of the lovely lilac color and its special way of flowering.

2. Geranium 'Rosanne'

Since the introduction of the G. 'Johnsons blue' we have seen several improvements of that variety.

I think that this 'Rosanne' is one of the best so far, a profusion of blue flowers that will stay untill october.

1. Persicaria polymorpha

My super favourite for years because of its incredible growth, strong character, beautiful flowers. It gives you pleasure for months.

I cut the plant down to the ground every february-march and within a month it grows to 2m high and starts flowering abunduntly early june.

The beautiful creamy plumes turn to brownish red in august  (lovely together with ornamental grasses) and they stay like that untill everything is cut down to the ground again.

So strong that it doesnt need any support.
