The follow-up to Paranormal Ichthyology from Oceanic-metallers Dagon is nothing less than a phenomenal piece of metal-art. From the stunning cover artwork until the last second of the cd, Terraphobic is a joy to own, and most certainly listen to.

The bass has an important role on/in?? this album, and the riffs played are sometimes pure genius. The guitars are good, but not the thing that ‘make’ this album (luckily it’s neither the thing that ‘break’ this album), just in general solid, melodic yet modern death/thrash riffs. The drums are nice (some cymbal accentuations were placed perfectly) and the vocals are astonishing, I can honestly say that this album is a true pleasure to listen to. The whole oceanic thing might start to bore some people, but I still think it charms the band, and fits the general Dagon image and I would be disappointed if the band suddenly started making ‘big bird metal’, so with that, you know what the lyrics are about, nothing too deep (pun intended), but entertaining.

The last track on the album is a bit different compared to the general album, it’s pretty much a modern extreme metal / semi-core track combined with heavy metal vocals, all very weird and unexpected, but surprisingly well-executed. I don’t really have favourite tracks, all tracks on Terraphobic are worth every penny Possible best release of 2009? Who knows, they’re certainly on the list of nominees.
