KAMPA is a peninsula in the heart of Prague. It lies under the famous Charles Bridge and suffered from the flood a few years ago. On the peninsula are the museum of modern art and nearby is the well known Lennonwall.
But Kampa is more!
Rock?
If bands like Talking Heads, Nick Cave and Joy Division are Rockbands, yes. Blues? Emo? Yes, if you base your opinion on the sad lyrics. Soul? Yes, if you consider the passion. Funk? Punk? Maybe... Classical? ... I think we can dismiss that.
Well, that's me.
I've been playing in Kampa for a few years now and I've been trying out different instruments so far. I started out as a keyboard player, but soon it was obvious that that wasn't my cup of tea, so I became a guitar player, just like Peter and Barry.
After recent reorganisations I started replacing our bass player. It's really not as easy as it sounds, so all I can do is give it all I've got.
After years of listening to loud and devilish rock music, our youngest member Stijn, found out music is so much more than just rock music.
While watching Swingpaleis on national television, he discovered some of the greatest artists like Christina Aguilera,
Johnny Logan, Right said Fred, Craig David, 50 Cent, Snoop Dog, Glen Medeiros and many other musical wonders.
To prevent other people from making loud devilish rock music, he started to hit the drums so they could see how hard he sucks which instead,
will keep them away from the drum kit!
Besides his job as a gay fashion advisor, he attends many courses like romantic bedroom decoration,
patchwork and retro fashion and he’s a falcet singer in the local opera. So when he’s not decorating, making a nice pattern or singing high notes,
you can find him helping out one of his friends S. Wauters in his nail care studio.
The little time that’s left, he relaxes in his sofa while watching Oprah and Martha Stewart...
Barry is the founder of the band.
He writes most of our songs and sings them as well. He's like a lyrics-producing machine that never stops. He writes at least one song every day so it's sometimes hard for the rest of the band to keep up.
Barry plays the guitar in an authentic way and is able to lose himself in a moment like nobody else can. We all remember one time in the recording studio when he had to stop singing because he got overwhelmed with emotions. Anyway, if you see him on stage you just have to love him.
He's part of the foundations of our band. Peter and Barry already have a history of their own.
It's hard to compare him with other guitar players because he has created a sound that's quite unique.
He always finds the right riff to play on whatever comes out of Barry's brain.
Peter is the one who's responsible for this website because I'm convinced that most of the time he knows what he's doing.
He's also a very sweet man if that's appropriate for me to say about another male person.
