My name is Dennis Vandermeersch. Born in Courtrai, December 6, 1976. I started diving in 1988 and nobody has been able to keep me out of the water since. My other hobbies are lifesaving, aquarium-keeping and underwater photography. I'm a 1* Diving Instructor CMAS/nelos. So you see, water is my passion.
Of course I also have a real job: I'm a physiotherapist. |
My interest in photography started under water. My father let me take some pictures with his motormarineII, and never got his camera back. After noticing that filmrolls were too expensive and too small, I decided to go digital, against the advice of Belgium's top photographers (who all went digital afterwards). A new world opened itself. No more messing with film, no more waiting for results. Digital gave the advantage of quick results and a steep learning curve. Then came the competitions... After participating in a contest, just for fun, I won my first prize... then a second... third... But the prizes weren't the most important part of these meetings. The information I got from other winners and top photographers was far more satisfying. It's amazing what you can learn just by looking at other pictures, listening to the judges and seeing people react to your shots. Some go for the gold, some want to learn. I'm going for a litte of both :) Many years followed, the results got better and I learned a lot on the way. Constantly looking for new photographic experiences and challenges, I've found that the only limit is one's imagination. An old Chinese guy once said: 'A picture is worth a thousand words'. (He probably said that in Chinese). Well in that case, I guess my pictures are my diary. I hope you enjoy my website. |
