Last known status: threatened
This huge fertilizer plant was hardly touched when I entered it
for the first time in the beginning of 2004. There was hardly any
vandalism, and graffiti or tagging was nowhere to be found. Control
panels were rusted but intact and desks and workbenches were slowly
rotting and collapsing under their own weight. Moss covered the
floors of the engine rooms where idle tools were rusting in the
tool racks and spare parts are still waiting to be used. Even the
keys were hanging neatly on their cranky old hooks.
But things are changing in SAFEA, and my heart was bleeding when
on a recent visit I could see graffiti appear and saw things had
been destroyed on purpose.

Coming
The end draws near for this beautiful fertilizer plant. Taggers
have entered the place and left their markings, local thieves are
stealing the valuable copper of the transformers and the electrical
switchboards. Soon only the disemboweled carcass of SAFEA will remain.
Then the workers come to destroy what's left. Pictures of the last
days: coming soon.
