A new International airport called Suvarnabhumi airport replaces Don Muang International airport. The construction started in 2002 and the opening of the new airport was scheduled on 29th september 2005 but has been delayed more times.  It opened on september 28th 2006.

Situated about 25km east of Bangkok (Samut Prakarn province) there will be a fast connection with the city center both with a new highway and Mass Rapid Transport (skytrain in under construction now).

The airport terminal is the largest in the world and has the tallest control tower in the world at 132m.
