Software preservation
This is extreme important as the quality of the 3" drive is low due to mainly belt problems.
Images of all disks can be made by the wonderfull program IMD you can find on DAVES OLD COMPUTERS - Disk/Software Image Archive
I used ImageDisk 1.17 and made images on my pc .
All following images are 9 sectors/track 40 tracks single sided , the original CPC6128 format

With the same program IMD you can write those images to another 31/2 , 3" or 51/4" disk
How to make your CPC128 boot from a 51/4" drive
Hardware modifications
First connect a 51/4 " floppy drive at the rear connector and be sure it works correctly as a b: drive
Open your CPC6128 and disconnect the 3" drive .
Make then a wire from connection 4 of the 3"drive flatcable (drive select 0) to your floppy connector 10 (drive select 0)and select DS0 on your 51/4" floppy drive
Your b: drive is now your a: drive
Software
Write the image of the boot disk to a 51/4" 360K floppy disk on your PC and boot your computer now on the 51/4" drive.
