Marie-José Geeraerts is a passionate watercolour artist. Her never exhausting source of inspiration is nature from which she takes its figurative elements to transform them magically into a semi-abstract sensitivity and visual emotion. Her strongly poetical impressions are painted with poised technical expertise - while respecting the properties of watercolours, she uses them to create the forms.

Born in Antwerp, Marie-José Geeraerts studied at the Academy of Arts in Aalst, the Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels and the Art Academy of Woluwe-St.-Lambert. She has been selected for a number of group exhibitions in Belgium, France and Germany.

In 1992, she received the award of the "Cercle d'Art du Rouge Cloître" in Brussels. In 1999, she was given the Silver Medal and the Talens Award and in 2000 the Bronze Medal, the latter two at the occasion of exhibitions of the European Merit of Arts in the Casino at Koksijde. Papermill in Antwerp awarded her with the Rowney Award in 2001.

Marie-José Geeraerts is an artist to the core, who continuously explores the possibilities of watercolours to delve ever deeper into the tension fields of the abstract where the unwritten word can be read.
