Matto
Le D. (°1971) graduated
as an animation filmer in 1994 and teaches at Sint-Lucas Art Academy Ghent.
He worked for De Standaard, Vacature Magazine, Mao Magazine,
the Pink Flamingo's Bar Ghent. He designed record covers,
including Fifty Foot Combo & The Madd. Influenced by the ‘Atomic Style’ popular in Belgian comic strips during the 80’s, he started collecting artefacts from the late fifties and early sixties, and especially the 1958 Brussels World Fair. TV-series like 'Colonel Bleep’, commercials from the UPA-studios and Jaques Tati movies further enflamed his interest in 50’s/60’s design and graphics. He started painting in 1996 and had exhibitions in Belgium, Italy, The Netherlands and the US. |
