PhusionCulture Nu-Jazz Improvisation Collective is a collective of improvising musicians founded by Matty Demont (Piano, Fender Rhodes, Keyboards) and Joeri Bal aka DJ Phuse (Vinyl, Sampler-Looper, Synth). We aim at bringing together musicians from all kinds of backgrounds to create vibes in pubs, clubs, restaurants, at parties, art galleries, ... Our common background is musical passion and spontaneous improvisation.

PhusionCulture concentrates on contemporary nu-jazz or phusion. This musical style touches styles like broken beats, triphop, lounge, deephouse, nu-dub, drum 'n bass, electrojazz, electronica, laid-back grooves, and rare grooves. Nu-jazz is generally based on an expressive breakbeat (e.g. hip hop) or broken beat with a funky electric or acoustic upright bass, complemented with jazzy or latin rhythms and jazzy or bluesy improvisations. The typical warm, lo-fi, liquid, laid-back atmosphere is generated by analogue vintage 'oldschool' keyboards, mostly from the seventies, e.g. Fender Rhodes, Wurlitzer electric piano, Clavinet, Moog and ARP synthesizers, Hammond organ, Mellotron and Solina. Warm vintage tube amplifiers complete the setup. Rhythm section (sampler-looper, drums and bass) is central and defines the groove.
