Any categorization you make is the reflection of a map of the world. Other maps are possible. I hope this one is helpful to you, but sure one could invent other ones. Books ended up on this page because they are more than strictly explaining NLP (see Introductionary books for that), or because they are not restricted to one field of application.

NEW Even since I have started reviewing NLP books on this web site, I have been wondering whether I could do it better. As one knows, criticizing is "easy", being "constructive" is harder. I hope that my own book, "7 Steps to Emotional Intelligence", which is now available in English, is valid as introduction as well. It holds the middle between the books discussed in the category "popular" and the category "introduction" and it also answers the question many people have been asking ever since Goleman wrote his book "Emotional Intelligence", namely "How do I improve my emotional intelligence?".

Self-help

The books here are based upon NLP, and are a first step to get to know NLP. However, they avoid or minimize the jargon, which explains why I didn't put them between the NLP introductionary works. Also, they don't fit in a specific application area, which explains them not being in there...

The reworked English version of my book "7 Steps to Emotional Intelligence" is now available!

This book is a very good answer to Tony Robbins Unlimited Power. It shows you that NLP is full of great things which you can learn for yourself. The book is aimed at a a public of readers of business-books, self-help books or motivational books. You'll find the traditional NLP material but also a set of new material.

A lot of the material came from modeling Achievers from the Academic world, the business world and from other area's. The authors asked the question "What is the same about all these people", and as a result they came up with a full representation of an achiever. You can read it as a set of results of modeling projects, or use it for your personal development.

This book is a product of several minds and a showcase for the knowledge united in NLP Comprehensive. It is the result of the joint collaboration of the complete team of NLP Comprehensive, maybe one of the biggest NLP institutes in the States, and certainly the one having the best staff in 1994, when this book is published. After collecting the material, Charles and Steve spend some six months in streamlining it, so that is now is a book that is an easy read, while still containing an enormous wealth of information.

At the end of the book, you'll find a 21-program to get some of the results that NLP can offer you.

Some of you may prefer tapes, e.g. to listen to while you drive in your car. I learned to read books while I'm driving, but some may think of this as being dangerous...

To Be Reviewed,
John is a certified NLP trainer who tried to make NLP accessible to persons not willing to go trough NLP jargon. Something nice about the book is the questionnaire at the beginning that helps you to measure how far you are compared to the potential enclosed in the techniques this book describes.
There is also a promotional web-page from the publisher describing the book:

Feedback from the author: "I wrote it to be an introductory book to help people find out more about NLP without getting confused or turned off. I stress high integrity applications of the information, and write with a very easy-reading style. It is professionally done, and I have had superb feedback from all levels of NLP'ers, from neophytes to highly skilled trainers."

Anthony Robbins (no "real NLP")

The books in this section are popular books, having sold more than a million copies each. However, Robins claims he doesn't teach NLP (indeed, he doesn't, but he uses a lot of NLP in his trainings).
