of Bergerac. It is part of the so called ‘perigord pourpre’, referring
to the intensive winegrowing.

The Dordogne
The Dordogne has been a
French department since 1790, part of the Aquitaine Region. Before, it
was the count of ‘Perigord’ named after the Gauls, the ‘Petrocorii’, who
inhabited this area.

As a result, South-European crops as tobacco, maize, sunflowers and
cereal thrive, as do strawberries, walnut and plum trees, and mainly
