Metal To Infinity

Reading the biography about this band I notice this is a collaboration between Dutch and Belgian Heavy Metal bands. Both countries have their own history and although Holland produced bigger bands, the Belgian bands were always darker and maybe more true. Not that this has a lot to do with Hooded Priest but it makes me curious anyway.

Hooded Priest is a band that mixes traditional and old Seventies Hard rock / Heavy Metal with Eighties Doom Metal. It makes them sound for a part ’refreshing’; I  mean you seldom hear this kind of music nowadays. An obscure atmosphere is foreseen but for the biggest part this is typical for this subgenre. The band does anything to change the tempi frequently although the slow and discouraging arrangements are their brand. It is indeed depressive music but on a way the listener stays alert. “8 o’ Clock Witch” , “Alibi” and the “Hooded Priest” tracks are good examples, showing Hooded Priest changes their tempi on a good way, delivers Power all the way.

Fans of old Black Sabbath, Saint Vitus, Witchfinder General etc. Thankfully no grunts are used and therefore Hooded Priest is a band that I can keep on listening to in the future! Hooded Priest is a good Doom Metal band because they’re able to mix melody in the songs. Another part I find interesting is the way the guitar solos are played. I love this kind of melancholic and dark leads, Hooded Priest deserves my respect because of it!

A classic Doom Metal band that uses plenty of breaks, delivers great arrangements, emotional solos and a good singer; what do we want more? Nothing I suppose and therefore Hooded Priest is a band that every traditional Doom Metal fanatic should look for. In their style this is more than a decent record. Emanes Metal Records did a good job giving these lads a contract!
