Royal Antwerp Micrographical Society |
In the course of more than 70 years the members of our society have been gathering nearly every Monday evening to be off on their favourite topic: microscopy.
All through such an evening the principal occupation is mostly the making of slides. One of the members will provide the necessary sections, and at the end of the evening he also will present the micrographical part: the issue of that day is discussed using projection, description and drawings.
Thanks to the hospitality of the Antwerpen (Antwerp) University, campus
Middelheim, we work in a laboratory with ample stereoscopic and binocular
microscopes.
We also have the use of a secured room where we keep our library (more than 550
volumes + several periodicals) and our collection of slides (more than 2500
microscopical preparations). We can provide our members with stains, mountants,
other chemical compounds and necessary materials. A Jung microtome, a Minot
microtome and a Lelong microtome are available.
Although the society has no regulations and no financial support of any kind, throughout the past decades our members have delivered some fine (scientific) work. Excluding all political or philosophical convictions, the bonds of good comradeship between them ruled our society, Only one item was and is important, and microcopy it is!
