7. Advanced features

7.1 Contest features

Many things are allready possible for a contest.

7.1.1 Auto Increasing Numbers

You can have "auto increasing serial numbers". This is easy. When you start the contest, your first qso-number is 001. Well : just fill in 001 in the STX-field .
This is the second field.

7.1.2 The CONTEST_ID

During the first QSO also fill in the CONTEST_ID-field.
Use a clever name. Not something like : UBA-contest. Better would be : UBA_2002_CW.
Save the qso. What do you see ? Yes : in the New Qso the STX is filled in with number 2 and in the field CONTEST_ID, the name of the contest is filled in.
As a mather of fact : it's the same as with BAND & MODE : it selects that, what was filled in in the previous qso.
Enter the qso and go on. Numbering is automatic.

7.1.3 DUPE-CHECK

As long as you don't "clear" the CONTEST_ID field, you have an automatic dupe-checker. It checks for dupes on the same band. It does NOT look at the mode.
This is done because of some V/U/SHF-contests. You stay on seeing the WB4's with that call, so there is no problem..
You get a "RED X" when it's a dupe for that CALL on that band during that contest..

picture

So here I called the contest : "HOWTO_CONTEST" (yes : it's a fake-contest I invented today (hi)).
I only made one qso and immediately logged the same call again.
(on7cl on date 2004-05-24. Please notice : you also see that I worked on7cl on 2001-10-13 and 2002-11-17. So the contacts with a station in other contest(s)/normal qso's are also shown, but those qso's have no- or an other- contest_id . They do not count for dupe check.).

So sure : in this case it's a dupe ! The X in the red field says I worked on7cl on 40m before. Otherwise it would not have been an "X". It would have been empty. Also when you are logging on an other band, the "X" will be there on 40m but not on the band you are loggin now.
(You can easily see that because the WB4's with "ON7CL" ["CALL"] are still displayed.)

There is only one problem. When you decide to make a few qso's OUTSIDE the contest ( so you clear the contest_id field as those qso's are not counting for the contest and you stop the automatic stx-numbering) and then you go on with the contest. The first qso will have NO DUPE CHECK. You first have to fill in the exact same contest_id and press "ADD" (really log) one qso. From now on your dupe-check continuous his work.(the same for STX -- restart with one number above the last-one in the contest.)

I think this is acceptable because it will seldom happen and the person that does act this way, will be aware of the problem
-- for me the problem is very little.
And now have fun and win that contest !

7.1.4 Ending the Contest

When the contest is over, how do I stop the auto-numbering ?

Well, just wipe out the STX-field in the first qso you log after the contest. Numbering stops .

You enter a new contest ? Easy : just restart with number 001 as described above and you're on the road again !
And you do exactly the same for the CONTEST_ID : just empty that field.
Also if you have to give your cq- our itu- number : use a slash "/" and it will be repeated in the STX-field until you wipe the field out.

7.2 More about the LIST PAGE

The " LIST PAGE " is the list down under in the log-page. If you worked a call before, you will see the previous qso's with that call.
Clicking on the QSO_ID will take you to the edit_qso-page. Here you can changes things on a previously entered qso.
Don't forget to press "SAVE". You also can delete a qso.
If you press "delete" your qso is away ! There is no warning! Be carefull ! Clicking on EQSLS will bring you to www.eqsl.cc .
This is an electronic system of qsl-swapping. You see also that there is a QSO_ID, that you can click on.

7.3 What is view ?

With "VIEW" you can select which qso's you want to see on a "DATE-base".

I think it's obvious how this works. You have the selection of :

  1. TODAY : you see all qso's logged today -- yeah right !
  2. 2DAYS : you see the qso's of the last two days.
  3. LAST WEEKEND : you see the qso's of the last weekend.
  4. LAST WEEK : yep : the qso's of the last week.
  5. LAST MONTH : qso's of the last month.
  6. DATE : you can specify one or two dates.
He this is easy, no ?
When you want to see the qso's of a certain periode, type in the 2 dates. Left the "lowest" (most early), and at the right the most recent. Press "DATE(S).
You want to see the qso's of one specific day only ? Just type in that date and press DATE(S) .
  7. ALL : You get all qso's, in groups of 50 on one page.
In View you select : QSO_ID,CALL,ADXCC,RSTS,RSTR,BAND,MODE,DATE,TIME,NAME,QTH,QSLS,QSLR,EQSLS,CONT,CQ,ITU,LOC,CONTEST_ID & ADLIB.

I think you noticed the difference between VIEW and the LIST-page.// Maybe you understand this better after trying out the "SEARCH".
In VIEW you don't have headers. But i don't think this is a problem. I think that if you see ON5DQZ , well : this is a call, and not a transmission-mode. SSB or FM is a "MODE".
Remark : you can click the qso_id to see all the fields of the qso. This way you go to "edit qso".
ps. Maybe at this point you don't get really what I'm talking about. Well, we did change the way LiHaLo acts. You have to read and understand also the "doing a search" section to get an idea of what I'm talking about.

7.4 Edit qso

In "EDIT QSO" you can change all you want about a qso. You can add more information are you can remove information are you can change the qsl-status.
You go to EDIT QSO by clicking on the QSO-ID in one of the VIEWS or in LIST, or after a search. In EDIT QSO you get one complete qso by one. Use the arrows to browse through your logbook.

This is also the place to create a group-qso.

7.5 Group qso

7.5.1 Intro

Group qso is something special. It can act in a strange way, if you don't act the way we describe here.
You are free to do what you want, but I'll explain here how we think it must be used.
Sometimes you are having a qso with friends you work almost every day. So you now them. And they will certainly be in your logbook already (this is a must for group-qso). Here in Belgium, the B.I.P.T still asks us to log every qso. You must understand this.
This is for if there are complaints about interference. They say it's easier if there is a logbook and so we must keep a logbook.
But of course, they want to now "when" you were transmitting. With who is of a lesser importance. Sure : maybe they want to now.
Of course, group can also be used in e.g. a DX-NET.
So what has this to do with LiHaLo and group qso? Let's start again.

7.5.2 Create the group

Let's suppose the group just starts. You need to log one of the members at the time the group starts ( or at the moment you are joining an allready existing qso-party and you want to start a group in your logbook).
So you just pressed "ADD" and logged one member. That qso is then the first on the "VIEW" page . Click on VIEW and click onthe QSO_ID of the first qso. You are now on the "EDIT_QSO-Page". Click Create group (The HEADER of "Remarks") . The group qso has started now with one member.
It Could look like this :

7.5.3 Add friends to the group

To add another friend, just fill in his call in the "CALL-FIELD" in the menu. Press CALL.
You will see all previous qso's with that call. You clik on one of them. That call is added now to the group.
And so you go on with all the members of the qso.
If you fill in a call that is not yet in your logbook, you'll get an empty page with only the headers CALL,NAME,QTH,LOC.
Now press " MAIN " in the MENU and log the new-one first the normal way. Don't forget to press "ADD" !
Press "GROUP" in the menu and now you can add him to the group-qso, the way described above.
Fill in his call in the blank field in the menu and press CALL, just as you did with the other call's.

7.5.4 Take notes

In the "Notes-field" you can write something you must remeber, e.g. something you have to ask to that friend the next time the micro or paddle is given to you.
Press "UPDATE" to save the notes.
You can also change NAME,QTH,..... .BUT : THIS IS NOT THE PLACE TO UPDATE YOUR LOGBOOK. IF YOU ADD YOUR FRIENDS QTH, NO WAY IT WILL BE ADDED TO THE NORMAL LOGBOOK !
GROUP has it's own Table, and will be deleted at the end of the qso (see below).

7.5.5 Logout & Backin

If someone leaves the group, press "LOGOUT". The TIME_OUT will be set and turn RED.
If that person shows up again, press "BACKIN". The TIME_OUT will be reset to 00:00:00 and will turn GRAY again.
So maybe you get something that looks like this :

picture
In reality the text is not so fuzzy as in this screenshot.

7.5.6 End the group qso

When you press "END QSO" in the menu, a few things will be done :
All the calls of the group will be added to the remarks off the qso you started the group from and the group will be deleted.
If you don't end the qso this way, pressing "GROUP" in the MAIN MENU, will bring up the group again.
ps. You can edit that qso afterwards by DOING A SEARCH on that call, EDIT-QSO and DELETE the REMARKS;
	 Then SAVE that qso.
For this maybe you need to read "DOING A SEARCH" first.
