French Onion Soup
- 5 onions, sliced
- 1/4 pound butter
- 1 T. thyme
- 1 T. pepper
- 1 pinch salt
- 3 bay leaves
- 4 oz. beef consomme
- 1 gallon water
- 4 oz. fresh chicken broth (chicken base)
- Melt the butter.
- Simmer the onion for about 20 minutes on low heat.
- Add the thyme, bay leaves, salt, pepper and the remaining ingredients.
- cook for about 30 minutes on medium heat.
