- P.P.A. 'H' Patrol trucks -

Popski's Private Army used next to the American WILLYS jeeps, 2 CHEVROLET C60L 3-ton trucks for his Patrol when it was formed in 1942. Each Chevrolet truck was armed with a single machine-gun mounted in the front. It was used to supplied the jeeps and men with fuel, water, amunition, mines, explosives, spareparts, food rations, etc...
Later on after P.P.A. arrived in Italy, and used different other types of truck to supply the Patrols. Here on this page we will try to give you an idea which trucks were using in P.P.A..

Dear Kurt,
The most trucks we used within PPA were Chevrolet and Dodge 3-tonners, but you could also find several other trucks such as the Signal and workshop truck of Blitz Patrol, even a large German truck (I think John can tell you more about this) and a few other vehicles. In fact, we used every vehicle were we could lay our hands on.
Keep up the good work and Best Wishes
Michele,

Information:
Popski's Private Army make plans for amphibian landings in the Po Delta.
Popski had heard of a new thing from America, called a 'Duck' - D.U.K.W. and he had heard there were some in Ancona. Popski drove to the harbour in Ancona, to Senigallia and found grey painted DUKW's in the harbour of San Vito. Popski did a little inspection about the American amphibian. The only snag was how to get the jeep into the DUKW?
Popski thought a few minuts and saw the empty spave behind the driving seat and the compartiment just big enough to hold a P.P.A. jeep. A crane was the solution according Popski. He went went in search of a R.E. officer who told Popski that they were available with a crane already fitted and had one brought up for inspection.
Popski asked if he could try it which he could and not much later a sapper swung the jeep off the ground and deposited the jeep neatly inside the DUKW. The jeep fitted snugly and there was a clear field of fire for the guns. Popski thanked the R.E. Officer and asked him to reserve the DUKW's for P.P.A.. Don't worry, nobody else will want them he said, Popski drove to Coriano, where the Patrols were and removed the Patrols to San Vito. The next day Popski picked up 6 DUKW's and 1 DUKW with a crane which was used as the supply truck. P.P.A. tested the DUKW's in the harbour of San Vito and the tests were good but not satisfactory.
P.P.A. DUKW-ing to Pineta di Classe, Ravenna, Comacchio and a few more.
