Ukraine was my
first encounter with the countries of the former Soviet-Union. Fortunately, I was not alone
to cope with this culture shock: my companions were 12 Flemish volunteers, an
ideal mix of experienced volunteers and relative freshers. The project was
located in a sanatorium near Chervonohrad, an unpleasant Soviet town in the spur
of the Carpathians. In the weekends we had enough time to visit beautiful cities
like L'vov and Kiev. On our two day journey to Ukraine we had the opportunity to
visit Cologne and Krakow.
