Some Proper Violence
Yes, there is a place for mindless violence and assorted tolchocking. The centre of Brussels. Yesterday we went to see a display of medevial jousting in the Grand Plas. Enjoy the photos.

It was an excellent and atmospheric backdrop for the parade, fighting and syncronised flag waving. Great fun. And, you can bet Quickos also had the time of his life.

More Belgian Fun A brief guide to this nation can be found in the A - Z of Belgium, which does tell you something about the place:

"Charleroi: A dreary and dirty Wallonian steel town whose steady decline in fortunes was accelerated by a visit from the English national soccer team during Euro 2000.

European Union: A cunning Belgian invention to force foreigners to stop periodically invading them and disrupting the witloof harvest.

Tintin: The third most famous Belgian. Known as Kuifje in Dutch due to his shocking haircut. An almost sexless adventurer and all round good egg who has saved the world from mindless egotists from a variety of countries. Morally matured a great deal after his early adventure in the Belgian Congo when he slaughtered gorillas, de-tusked elephants and blew up a rhinoceros by drilling a hole in its back and inserting a stick of gelignite."

Fixing The Hutton Inquiry Yesterday Lord Hutton was on record as saying he wanted the whole of the inquiry televised.

Today we find that TV cameras are to be banned from the inquiry at the request of Lord Hutton. Why has the Good Lord changed his mind?

"A spokeswoman for the inquiry said Lord Hutton felt witnesses - which are likely to include Tony Blair, Alastair Campbell, Geoff Hoon and Andrew Gilligan - may feel "under too much pressure" if their cross-examination was on camera."

The idea that the Reverend Blair, Cynical Ali, Geoff Whohe and BBC TV reporter Andrew Gilligan feeling under too much pressure because of some TV cameras is farcical, absurd and surreal.

The Good Lord is indeed moving in mysterious ways.......

Mad Cow Art - I posted earlier about the Art on Cows project which is currently grazing around Brussels.

It's a wonderfully simple concept. You get a life size plastic cow and paint it. There are over 50 in Brussels atm and I managed to get my camera out and snap away.

A Pertinent Question "Have you got blood on your hands Mr Prime Minister? Are you going to resign over this?"

And the plot thickens:
"On Thursday, before leaving his Oxfordshire home for the last time, Dr Kelly had worked on a report he said he owed the Foreign Office and sent some e-mails to friends, his wife, Janice, told the New York Times.

The newspaper said a second e-mail, sent by Dr Kelly to an associate, was "combative".

In it, the Ministry of Defence adviser said he was determined to overcome the scandal surrounding him and was enthusiastic about the possibility of returning to Iraq.

A man who has stood up to Saddam Hussain's secret service and bully boys, just doesn't say something like that within minuites of walking out his house to top himself. Than is even less credible than the Prime Minister.

And there is yet more evidence that the Reverend has had (another?) breakdown. How is his mental health?

If he looked stressed on television and sounded faint on your speaker - believe me, in the flesh, Tony Blair looks like a shattered man.

The half hour press conference held in the spa resort of Hakone, was one through which he seemed to struggle every second.

Big speakers in the room amplified the deep sighs at the end of every Blair statement. One eye was visibly moist - and journalists present wondered whether he could handle any more questions without breaking down, or openly crying.

Who Needs Democracy when you've got a messiah complex as big as the Reverend Blair? Who needs voters when History will be my judge as the Reverend's hubris reaches a high.

Amongst those who were applauding Blair's sermon was Mr Rumsfeld, who must have enjoyed hearing that, for in August 2002, Rummy said Attack Saddam now and let history judge.

Now they're exaggerating WMD Evidence Against Syria. Will they ever learn? the CIA and other agencies objected vigorously to a Bush administration assessment of the threat of Syria's weapons of mass destruction that was to be presented Tuesday on Capitol Hill.

It does seem that Iraq is not the only place with guerilla warfare. The UK spooks and the CIA are busy briefing against their own governments.

Hail Tony as the Blair for President 2004 campaign kicks off:

"Between the babbling of George W. Bush on the right, the blathering of the anti-war left, and the cluck-clucking of media hens everywhere, stands Tony Blair, articulate and principled....

Tony Blair took a considerable political risk in supporting Iraqi Freedom, and for that we would like to thank him and promote him to chief executive in charge of the world's greatest super power, President of the United States of America."

The Missing Marine saga continues. Personally I would be suprised to find he believed the girl was 19, as he appears to claim. Why? Well, why has he done a runner? You don't need to plan a getaway for an adult do you? Also he has two other incidents relating to girls the same age.

What has he to say? He left the following message at his old bible school:

"Toby T. Studabaker (tstudabaker@yahoo.com) Attended 1993-94
well just an update that i have a chance to get out of the Marine Corps with a bad shoulder, pray that God uses this for me to get out and beginning his work in my life. i want so much to serve him better and i know rosedale is the best place for me last time he spoke to me so clearly and was able to draw closer to him."

Think I'll send him an email.....

The Reverend Gets a Gong as a reward for 'his stand against evil' from George, but there won't be a ceremony as it will outrage public opinion. Now, what does that tell you about UK public opinion? I think the Iraq war will be Blair's nemesis.

He just can't go on lying to everyone. It reminds me of the book about Clinton: No-one Left to Lie to.

This is an excellent and concise article on the Uk reaction to Blair's benign aquiesence to Bush. I no longer think of the Reverend as Bush's Poodle. A better analogy is to consider him as Bush's Rent Boy.

From the article:
" British Prime Minister Tony Blair is set to follow in the footsteps of arguably the greatest British leader - Sir Winston Churchill - the only British politician to receive America's highest accolade: the Congressional Gold Medal.

Blair's even gone one-up on the cigar-puffing bulldog, credited for saving Britons from forcibly speaking German. Blair has been accorded the double honour of addressing a joint session of Congress this week.

Blair's master of spin, Alistair Campbell, when asked by Blair how he should begin a speech to the nation, once joked: "How about 'My fellow Americans…'" Sounds like good advice when the British PM looks as though he has been putting America's interests before those of his own citizens and is viewed by many in the U.S. as a hero."

Another Internet Horror Story as a marine runs off with a 12 year old girl. This morning I heard calls for 'internet chat rooms' to be banned. Such informed opinion will be around untill these two are found.

Interestingly, the parents appeared to follow the guidelines, but were outsmarted by their daughter. I find that easy to believe, especially when they called her 'Shevaun' instead of the usual spelling of Siobhan, which is pronounced she-vaun.

Our girls often use MSM, but usually to chat to, their friends who live two doors away.

If We Believe Blair then this is what happened over Niger:

1) UK produce documents showing Iraq tried to buy uranium in Niger
2) The CIA investigated the claim and found it to be false
3) The CIA reject the claim and do not tell of their investigations
4) UK has other evidence confirming Iraq tried to buy uranium
5) UK does not tell the CIA of this evidence

All this before the largest conflict since WWII? It is just not believable.

My theory is simpler: Blair is lying through his teeth and trying not to be caught out.

The Blair Hitch Project flounders as the 'Dodgy Dossier' row turns farcical. Yup, the first dossier is also dodgy and The Reverend is shown to be a serial plagiariser.

Meanwhile the CIA grovel for forgiveness because the forged Niger documents. Needless to say, they got these documents from UK Intelligence. The Reverend Blair is the only person standing by the claim that Iraq was buying uranium. He says he has evidence. If he does, then perhaps the CIA might like to see it, especially now as they're taking the fallout.

There are only three explanations for Blair's assertion that he has the evidence and Tenet's apology:

1) The UK didn't tell the CIA about their additional evidence Blair claims to have. In this unlikely event, he has just alienated the CIA and made a powerfull enemy.
2) The Uk passed on the evidence and the CIA thought it was rubbish. This is likely, but why would Blair be so confident about standing by evidence the CIA dismissed?
3) Blair is lying through his teeth. Again.

Place your bets.

On the good news front it looks like Cynical Ali is going to resign soon.

The Only Thing Open About New Labour Is Their Corruption

When they are caught downloading child pornography, what WWTD? (What Would Tony Do?)
Answer: Put a D-Notice in place to prohibit ANY reporting and deny resources to the police to investigate.

When the Cabinet have conflict of interests, WWTD?
Answer: ban ALL investigations by the parliamentary ombudsman on the grounds of, ahem, 'public interest'.

When The Reverend gets overloaded with freebies WWTD?
Answer: Refuse to list them as you because you are worried about "the likely media reaction to the publication of a huge list of gifts received from other governments and the potential embarrassment publication might cause".

The Reverend's hubris is reaching a climax. He has looked so nervous, so edgy for so long, he looks like a broken man. As Thatcher went insane over the poll tax, it seems that the Reverend, pumped full of amphetamines, has snapped during the Iraq war.

As the case for war turns to dust, the Reverend can only repeat his lies:
"I am absolutely certain WMD will be found" - Oh no they won't say "very senior sources in Whitehall
"There is evidence that Iraq was a threat - no new evidence says Rumsfeld

And then these is the curious case of the Reverend being the only person on the planet who thinks Iraq was buying uranium in Niger.

He's lost the plot, and for all our sakes, he needs to lose his job

Save £20! So, the Guardian is following the Independent and starting charging for content, including an ad-free version of their site for the princely sum of £20 per annum. The editor is asking for comments, so I asked:

You are going to charge £20 p.a. for your site without adverts and pop ups. Wouldn't it be cheaper to use Mozilla?

I'll let you know the reply.

Terrible Parenting. I am shocked by this tattoo parlor for children. How on earth can tatooing an infant be lawful?

"At what age can my child get a tattoo?

Legally, anyone can get body art as long as their parent or guardian signs a consent form. However, Baby Ink will not work on anyone under 6 months of age, as their sensitive skin does not react well to the ink."

It is in the US, but not in Blighty - well not untill Blunket wants to tattoo barcodes on the poor.

Minister Ruins The Reverend's Sermon Oh dear. As soon as the Reverend Blair began to evangalise to the unconverted (aka the Labour Party) one of his Ministers, Patricia Hewitt, blows the gaff:

"In a series of extraordinary remarks which called into question the whole rationale of the 2001 general election, Ms Hewitt announced that Labour had not been elected to be "more competent" an administration than the Tories, and said the emphasis placed on delivery "had been a mistake".

The truth is not a good thing in New Labour. It is beyond question that the Reverend's bunch are even less competent than the Grey Major's collection of inadequates.

A Musical Interlude Interesting who you meet online...... I've been chatting to a guy on a board for a long time, especially about music as we seem to broadly share tastes. We have both had the suspicion that we have actually met. Certainly we have mutual aquaintences and know the same gossip about many punk and post-punk people in Manchester, Liverpool and Edinburgh. So, and we are both a bit cagey about identity online, we keep dancing around each other.

Then yesterday, something odd happened.

A very long time ago I was involved managing a friend's band and I got them a deal with an inde label. As a spin off, I made a record on this label with my friend and A.N. Other. It was a quirky experimental bit of fun. It sold about 10 copies.

I found some playlists online and found that a New York station was occasionally playing this tune. I emailed them to say hi and I had a good chat with one of the DJ's there.

So, I made a post about this, saying I made an obscure record on an achingly hip Scottish inde label once, on a bbs and got a response from my musical mate.

He said there were only two achingly hip Scottish labels, Fast Product and Postcard, which one was I on?

I told him it was Fast and he replied "Oh, I was on Postcard".

Bush Reaches New Levels of Idiocy Boy, it is a shame that Bush and his hawks didn't have the courage to serve in Vietnam - or the moral principles to stand against it. Instead they all took the most cowardly route of all - ask Daddy to get them out of it.

This experience would stand them in good stead as the Iraqi's strategy becomes obvious: Accept invasion as inevitable, disappear from the battlefield untill later then quietly and consistently kill soldiers untill they are forced to withdraw.

It could work. Certainly Bush has little grasp of the realities, as do the US population - 53% think things are going 'well' in Iraq according to the latest polls.

Well, they're going to get worse. Apart from the killings, there are other ominous signs. There is repeated sabotage, especially of oil pipelines. These will be almost impossible to guard. And what is happening in the towns? Troops only occasionally patrol some of the main streets...... what is happening in the backstreets? Nobody knows, but they do hear gunfire.

So, how do you respond to these attacks on your soldiers? Bush is encouraging them:

"There are some who feel like that, you know, the conditions are such that they can attack us there," Bush told reporters at the White House. "My answer is, `Bring 'em on.'

I hope the relatives of soldiers serving in Iraq appreciate this support from on high. I can just picture the Reverend standing in front of a mirror a la Travis in Taxi Driver, saying "Bring 'em on", whilst Cynical Ali holds his head in his hands saying "Prime Minister, are you sure about this?"

Euro-Buffonery The Eu is now in the hands of Italy. More precisely, it is in the hands of Italy's biggest crook - Berlusconi. This crook is only there because he bribed and bullied his way into immunity against corruption charges.

His presidency cheapens all of us who are looking for a way of working and living together.

Naturally he blew it on the first day with an incradibly offensive remark to a German MEP, saying he would make a good concentration camp guard. Schroder is asking for an apology. The Italian press have plenty to say, but it depends on who the owner is......

Suffer Little Children I just do not understand the attitude of the Reverend Blair to paedophilia. It must surely offend his, ahem, Christian morality, but why is he so soft on this dispicable crime? And he is soft on it.

Why has he put a D-Notice on naming the two ex-ministers thet were on the Operation Ore list? The investigation has stalled. Surely he isn't turning a blind eye out of political convenience?

Why did he not give the police, even 20% of the funds they asked for to investigate Operation Ore? This investigation could arrest thousands of these sick, sick people and make Blairland a much safer place for children.

And now we come to Ms Margaret Hodge.....

I remember the sickening story of the Islington Care Homes Scandal. Concientious social workers tried to get widescale child abuse taken seriously, to no avail. Indeed the abuse ring was organised by council workers.

what did Ms Hodge do? She knew, but did nothing.

And now she is in charge of the nation's 11 million children.

So, Reverend, please come clean and tell us why you are soft on child abuse, soft on the causes of child abuse.
