Dragons... About the best known mythological creatures, and perhaps even the most popular as well. All people around the world know Dragons, and have their own versions of them.
Western Dragons are extremely big, four legs and mostly have wings. They are the "classic" Dragons. Eastern Dragons resemble giant snakes with some sort of "moustache", as you can see on the ones in the background. They have legs, but smaller ones. Wings are almost non- existent with these. |

All Dragons do have one thing in common: they are undoubtably power incarnate. They can be defeated of course, but that will prove to be very hazardous to do,
since they are big, intelligent, fast and most of them can even breathe fire. And then you still have the massive claws and teeth... These pages are dedicated to those magnificent creatures. It's easy to navigate to, I put everything in different chapters. You can always go back a page, or go forward. For those of you who just want the pics, click Pics!! |

Before I give some more mythological backgrounds about Dragons, scientific evidence,
species, behaviour and so on: let me tell you why I like them so much, and what they mean to me. First of all: they look impressive! You can't help standing in awe when a creature the size of your house flies over and even breathes fire! So their appearance is one of the reasons. Just look at some of the pics on the last page and you'll see what I mean. Next, they are intelligent. Dragons wouldn't be so dangerous if they were dumb. They would still be big and lethal, yes, but not like this. An intelligent foe is more dangerous. And lastly: in most fantasy novels or games, Dragons also possess powerful magic. And as you know from my bio by now: I love magic. |

Most Dragons are portrayed as evil. Smaug, the Dragons in the movie "Reign of Fire", the Dragons in Tad Williams' novels "Dragonbone Chair", and so on.
Power does corrupt it seems... Or perhaps they just are evil? Not really. What about the Dragon in the movie "Dragonheart", for example? Honourable, brave, valiant. Not all Dragons are evil. But yes, most of them are... (they are so cool!) |
