English summary

This website is created to share our travel experiences and, hopefully, to help and inspire other independant travellers.
This is a strictly non-commercial, personal and independant site.
We are a forty-something couple, always travelling together with our two children (born 1983 and 1985).
We particulary like Northern Europe (Scandinavia, Scotland), where you can still can vast areas of untouched nature.
Summers can be warm and dry in the North, but most European tourists travel South, looking for 40 °C and eternal sunshine.
Great, that way there is plenty of space in Northern Europe for travellers (like us) that try to avoid crowds and tourist traps ...

We drive a small, old VW-Westfalia camper, and we prefer basic camping, in our camper or in our two small tents.
Hiking and camping in Scandinavia and Scotland are great. As our son is now old and strong enough to carry a large backpack, we have rediscovered the joy of long hikes and sleeping in the wilderness.

Our recent travel destinations:

  • South-West England (Cornwall) in 2001
  • Finland (2002)
  • the Netherlands (National Park of the Hoge Veluwe, 2003)
  • Northern Scandinavia (Norway and Finland, 2003)
  • Slovakia (2004)
  • Iceland (2005)
  • Scotland (the Isles of Arran, Mull and Ardnarmunchan, 2006, boating and fishing - the Outer Hebrides and Shuna Island, 2010)
  • a winter backpack trip accross Scandinavia, travelling by train and bus (2006)
  • South-Sweden (canoe trip, 2007)
  • USA, NW, region of Seattle (Mount Rainier NP, Olympic NP, Northern Cascades NP, Mt St Helens, Glacier NP(2008)
  • Iceland, Snaefellsnes peninsula, Western Fjords, Landmannalaugard, Westmand Islands.

Plans for the future:

  • Poland (still a bit worried about safety issues)
  • Canada (British Columbia) 2011
  • winter trip to North Cape, Norway
  • the Azores, beautiful volcanic islands in the Atlantic Ocean
  • Switzerland (the Alps are great, but largely ruined by mass tourism, hope we can still find some unspoiled areas, and the country had some of the most exciting mountain roads in Europe)
  • Iceland, part IV ...
  • New Zealand

If you have visited one of these destinations, we would appreciate if you could share your 'tips and trics' and your 'off the beaten track' tips with us....

Sorry, there is no English version of this site. You can try an online translation service (e.g. Altavista Babel Fish) to translate an entire webpage in English. I have tried it, it produces a kind of ridiculous translation that got me an instant headache ... If you are interested or if you want information, you can always contact us by e-mail
And even if you can't understand what we are writing, there's a lot of pictures on our Picasa (Google) webgallery to have a look at: here.
