Having survived the horror of Vietnam, Tim marries Paula, and tries unsuccessfully to carve
out a new life away from the mayhem of war. But haunted by a recurring nightmare, he
eventually attacks his wife and child. In sensational flashbacks, Tim is seen shooting
his best friend from an escaping helicopter gunship, rather than leave him to the torture
of the Viet Cong in a rat infested well, full of dying American POW's.
