Soundtrack Review Sites
Cinemusic: Weekly based reviews that doesn't cover most of the albums, but a great collection nonetheless, also has game based reviews and interviews so they can brag about knowing Hans Zimmer (damn you)! Anyway, you can guess the next Danny Elfman rating before reading and it also has a mystery clip prize winning contest. See it and hear them because I find them simple, but do I win? Ohhh no! Anyway, good enough for me!
Filmmuziek: Dutch spoken site with a large stash of reviews, with also links to special soundtrack shops in Belgium, search engine for both the reviews as info and a great deal of Dutch spoken news. For those of you that aren't speaking Dutch, it is a language that only intellectuals speak. And if you don't understand it, don't bother to read further. Only intellectuals can!
Filmtracks: The Walhalla of filmmusic reviews, a lot of reviews, enormously vicious readers and a scoreboard forum that often depicts Jesus Christ, basically heaven. The site I often base upon my purchasing. Even though he's a Rachel Portman enthusiast, he's fair to bash any score that he doesn't like. Also has occasional prize contests! Excellent site!
Filmscore: Another Dutch spoken site hosted by my very good friend Bregt, renewed and looking better then ever. Growing collection of reviews, quizzes to test your film music knowledge with, contests to win prizes and basically a review site that honors the Dutch film music fans with their interest for the music. Its a site that I start visiting more and more and especially fans of Belgium and Netherlands should visit it as much as Filmmuziek. Oh, and its for the intellectuals among us, have I said that already?
Film Score Center: New filmmusic site, hosted by my good friend Andreas, capturing a unique but interesting rating system, good and long reviews and above all upcoming goodies, which will be presented in the near future. Look especially for the rare Silvestri and Bernstein reviews, of which he is a big fan! Upcoming site in the making.
G Soundtracks: Specially devoted to game music which just started some time ago, the reviews are small in number for the moment, but are aplenty in words. With additional track per track analysis of several scores and a doses of game music still be to reviewed, at least game music lovers can hold their breath to see this site expand.
Movie Music UK: Serious list of scores, with most of them firstly receiving a heard in the film quotation before review. Often not there, suddenly editor Jonathan Broxton can suddenly appear and write like it for days. Serious biography on many composers, photos and interviews. Another site to treasure!
Movie Wave: Devoted Jerry Goldsmith, Bruce Broughton and Ennio Morricone lover (especially of Goldsmith he has practically every score available) and an occasional writer of articles that make sense, when you read them. Anyway, almost every day a new review and a lot of fun to not see pictures of composers when in fact they should be on display. One of my favorite sites and seems to be a very cool guy!
Music from the Movies: Enormous soundtrack review base (around the 2000 which he happily displays all the time). Sadly no tracklisting available of any CD and the reviews are rather short, but the the number of reviews is dazzling and the fresh news always appears first on that site! Great site alone for knowing the news at first hand!
Scoremagacine: One of the few Spanish sites to grace us with film music, captures lots of more obscure works and covers them with large reviews. Includes also interviews and weekly news (also found in English), a forum and has more then 1500 composers with a short biography and possible photo, astonishing. Sadly, the reviews aren't in English, if not this site could have received more visits from me. Still upcoming and fresh place to keep an eye at.
Scorereviews: Horner favorite that changes from site's design every 2 minutes, but the style I like and you can even rate the score's once, and not twice. Knows his computer knowledge and his skill for reviewing, while having news from time to time and even a forum, cool place and a man that hates to quote 1 star scores!
Soundtrack Express: As many sites, another outlandish site of reviews, with the chance to read composer based reviews one at a time, and even a link on his home page to Amazon (talk about financing his site). Anyway, I like reading his stuff because its to the point and he likes Starship Troopers as a film and Muppet Treasure Island as a score. Also watch out for the trade list, since its more shameless advertising of his collection! Anyway, I like it!
SoundtrackNet: Another enormous wealth of soundtrack information database (with tracktitles) but not every score has a review. And the listened to scores without review are always harshly quoted, however the features, articles as the ever cool trailer music source is good enough for a daily visit. Even rate your own scores, with any luck you can be the first to rate a hard to get soundtrack.
Tracksounds: Reviews that are neatly written and don' fall beneath the 5 out of 10 marker. Game reviews too and articles that are always fun to read. Even the experience-o-meter is cool and when writing, there is always a sense of knowledge behind it. However don't base your purchasing around it, he doesn't listen to bad music apparently.
Soundtrack purchasing Sites
Amazon: Enormous collection of everything from DVD's, CD's, computer products, baby needs and toys, you name it, they offer it for sale. For soundtracks alone, a majestic collection with even the chance to purchase 2nd hand offers for sometimes 0.99$, and in good condition. Sadly the shipping for European customers is tricky since the packages are always too large for the content within. However, for that they offer also Amazon dealers in Canada, United Kingdom, Germany, Japan and France among the most important. If you want to find something, here's the place!
Footlight: Store with DVD's and Soundtracks that occasionally has the winning hard to get item for you to buy, but I don't visit that often anyway. Offers also LP's of some scores, but the prices are then of course too high. Caution nonetheless since the knowledge of this site isn't carefully investigated yet!
Intrada: Respected site that offers a wide collection of soundtracks, at times special one of a kind items and follower of Bruce Broughton and Mark McKenzie, of whom most albums has been released by the label. Guaranteed service!
La-La Land Records: Newest film music dealer that offers fresh, exciting and promising releases, which of any you can buy from their site with special autographed signatures of the composer. The selection so far is minimal but they release once a month several releases and with the highest quality in presentation and detail. If you are looking for those releases, then signatures are the way to go!
Screen Archives: My shop, terrific collection, hard to get offers and the place to get most soundtracks. I purchase everything from this place and the service is outstanding, even for European shipment it arrives in 5 to 7 working days practically. I can not recommend this site more then enough!
Varèse Sarabande: The Soundtrack specialist, that released most film scores of our time. They sell their releases through their site for a special price. The added bonus of the Varèse Sarabande Club CD releases also sells as a charm. The upcoming CD's at the end give us the satisfaction to look forward to what's coming. Anyway, only for the special treatment they have given movie music, this site earns a spot in your heart!
Special Soundtrack Sites
Streaming Soundtracks: Special site were you can request your own film music track once an hour from a dazzling collection, and you can listen basically to film music all day. The selection grows by the week and makes grading new purchases easier at times by simply listening to audio samples. Recommended for the collection and possible request you can deliver all day long!
Special Composer Sites
Aram Mandossian: Composer for Film: Some samples to hear from his site, at times ethnic influenced with some slow as faster additions. A composer with a fresh sound at times, what we need! Also synthesizer music for you lovers available!
Jeremy Soule: Composer & Symphonist: It captures news, a biography, his credits as a chance to download his mp'3s as hear several while exploring the site. Jeremy Soule is definitely one of the best composers out there for video games, as "Total Annihilation" was a riveting orchestral bombast that captured complex action writing while also his music for the Harry Potter games was transformed through orchestra, now as in the future. Recommended to hear samples from his work.
Mike Verta: Versatile man Mike Verta is, and his site captures samples of musical projects (including his good Forbidden Warrior) and his trailer music for Ballestic: Ecks vs Sever. Further the opportunity to explore his work he has achieved as visual effects supervisor (the new Superman logo is his) and director. As said Mike Verta's a versatile artist and especially his musical voice is recommended to explore. Welcome to the business Mike.
