'Every composer can do it three or four or five different ways, but he chooses the one he feels would be best for the movie.'

Biography

Bill Conti was born on 13 April 1942 in Providence, Rhode Island. He scored small features and Television series before hitting the Jack Pot with Rocky, for which he was awarded with an Academy nomination. Kept scoring attractive assignments as the 3 sequels of Rocky, (not Rocky IV) also recommendable are the musical scores for Goldengirl, An Unmarried Women (second nomination), Private Benjamin, Four Your Eyes Only, The Right Stuff ( for which he was awarded with his only Oscar so far) and The Karate Kid. Bill Conti also wrote the themes for Dynasty, North and South and Cagney and Lacey as others memorable shows. Along with his scores for the sequels of Rocky he scored The Karate Kid Part II, III as The Next Karate Kid. He also had the honor to score Masters of the Universe, which catapulted it due to the immense popularity of the toy itself. The Big Bleu, Lock Up, 8 Seconds, Spy Hard and The Thomas Crown Affair and Avenging Angelo are Bill Conti's most known projects of late. His recent affair is more in the Television business, but luckily for fans he scored Rocky's final movie, Rocky Balboa. Bill Conti hasn't been the greatest composer, nor did he receive any critical acclaim from most fans. But the more you hear his scores, the more you get the impression he has more diversity and skill than the common composer working in Holywood today.

I think my score has a unique sound because of the five pianos. But to everyone else, it will sound like a really large piano, even though a pianist couldn't play all of those notes.
(on The Thomas Crown Affair)

1987

I think I'm probably more brassy, but not totally. I happen to like brass and probably used them more in the picture than John traditionally does.
(on For Your Eyes Only)

1987

I was always interested in dramatic music. I did an opera, but I found out that the only place to do dramatic music and really get paid for it was in films and television.
(overall impression)

" The Oscar for The Right Stuff, as his highly known theme for Rocky "
