Review
by Thomas Glorieux: What I love about Galaxy Quest is the combination of powerful orchestral score and choral accompaniment that leaves you wanting more of it each time you encounter it. We all witness it in the first tracks, while 'Galaxy Quest: The Classic TV Theme' reaches that corny level of spacey themes it is the vocal work in 'Revealing the Universe' that reaches that outer space feel for sure. 'The NESA Protector' is a short but amazing fanfare for the ship and the pride follows in 'The Launch' which keeps combining the vocal magic with the main theme of Galaxy Quest, excellent stuff. The first real action piece is no walk in the park, 'Red Thingie, Green Thingie' is full of energy and quick orchestrations and someone not ready for this will need an aspirin after it. The outer space feel continues with the 'Shuttle to Planet', which could come just as good out of a Star Trek episode but the best tracks come at the end, 'Omega 13 / Heroic Guy' has that supreme majesty and magic when it concerns the discovery of the Omega 13 device and 'The Battle' reaches The Phantom levels of adventure before returning to the energetic pace of track 10. And finally, fans of Goldsmith might find 'Rock Monster' a interesting piece because it listens for several seconds like Gremlins' action chase music. Who ever said David Newman couldn't score like the best. The best final track you could possibly imagine awaits us with 'Goodbye, Serris', a bold vocal track that keeps blowing you away, on the disc and especially on screen. People that have purchased Galaxy Quest but can't quite enjoy it must surely rent the movie, first of all a movie I can recommend to any person but there the music really makes sense. David Newman hopefully has shown his potential more then enough. Making a spin off score for a show isn't hard but it has to reach that corny level while not overemphasizing on it. Galaxy Quest is the score that rightfully succeeds in it and it has some incredible musical moments to prove it. While surely not everyone will think the world of it, perhaps its a big too much energy for some, the score will most likely please those that enjoyed The Phantom for all its worth. Super Tracks made me a very happy man with releasing the promo (excellent sound quality and enough musical material on board to enjoy the result) and finally people found out why David Newman deserves more credit. Because he wrote a score full of magic, power, and a warp speed unimaginable. It really flies with an enormous force over you. So, I recommend to use your seatbelt, your stereo at full volume and a enormous imagination to explore that Star Trek magic this score so wonderfully creates. \µµµµ/
