YOUNGER & YOUNGER

"An organ for a more dramatic mood? Sounds not too promising and it basically isn't!"

Review by Thomas Glorieux:

The question that haunts me is not that it might listen as difficult music, but does it sound interesting? It seems in this case that most of Hans Zimmer's dramatic scores sound much like the other. Not in theme but in feeling and with the various tones or instruments he creates it with. This isn't a bad thing but it misses that stimulating aspect that makes the score so wonderful on it's own. These scores are often forgotten because they are first of all no big box office names but small movie projects with a heart and a charming flair, and secondly because it isn't something to cry for. Its such a score for particular fans out there, not directly Hans Zimmer fans because Die Hard action lovers will be bored to death when they hear this or others that want to hear sensational moments, please spare your breath. Younger & Younger is nothing like that, think dramatic and think of organ and synthesizer music. It listens with a charming background, a lovely mood and with enough playful and dramatic moments, but it has been used over and over again and it sounds boring to say the least.

This score offers everything we heard before, with different themes, not bad but nothing that you will whistle at the end of the score. That lets it's sound like a charming but unsatisfying attempt. This score also offers organ moments like in 'My Organ' and in the song 'Show me your Face', which features the voice of Donald Sutherland, not perfect for listening because his voice stays on the same level. Luckily the singing of Lisa Angel is much more appropriate. This doesn't make the song a winner because first of all, it's a bit too long (8 minutes) and that organ background isn't something that sounds utterly attractive. The other moments of the score, like 'The Morning After' and 'Rabbits' sound extremely close to Zimmer's score but are written by Alex Wurman and performed by Don Jon Vaughn. I have to say that Younger & Younger isn't bad but on the other hand does it offer nothing of interest, it's a medium background listen and in many ways do other scores offer more heart and flair. Younger & Younger offers barely 20 minutes of score from Zimmer and listens simple and appropriate for it's genre. But music can not sound just enjoyable but it has to excite you and that interesting part is missing all the way. Average to say the least.
