MORE MUSIC FROM BRAVEHEART

"Basically very little new music and plenty of dialogue to accompany it"

Review by Thomas Glorieux:

Legend tells of a story that captured so many people they were willing to embrace anything that captivated their souls. Among them lies James Horner's score for the movie Braveheart. And yet it brought us 78 minutes of supreme music the movie offered so much more opportunities for a successful release, the now famous three words "More Music From ..." And everyone with copies in their hands knows there is unreleased material, dialogue and extra bonus cues. Of course mix it in order and you have a package that can sell and a lot of bonus releases have sold, if its from Braveheart, Titanic, Gladiator, it simply sells. Of course see it in the context: "what does it offer besides the already discovered music from the first". The truth, not much but they inserted just the kind of inspirational music from the original release that we couldn't be mad after listening to it for the first, second or god knows how maniest time.
First of all the new material, what is important to remember: 'Outlawed Tunes on Outlawed Pipes' is beautiful bagpipe music, 'The Royal Wedding' are chants, 'Scottish Wedding Music' is dance music, 'Prima Noctes' is emotional music while 'Vision of Murron' is a subdued piece of beauty. Of all the unreleased tracks there isn't one that promises much, sure it all sounds nice and beautiful but for its running length it doesn't give us a lot of new material worthy of the price wrapped around "More Music From".

The returning music, existing with some of the best including 'The Proposal', the duo track 'Sons of Scotland / The Battle of Stirling' in number 12 with dialogue in the middle, 'For the Love of a Princess' and the end burst of pride in 'You Have Bled with Wallace!' are all fantastic, but will offer no new spark when you have the original Braveheart in your collection. And while we receive well chosen dialogue in separate tracks and some in the musical tracks and a healthy portion of Scottish bagpipe music, it is all nothing tremendously classy. We all find it worthy of attention, but will this happen the second or the third time when you might listen to it? People simply nuts from the music of Braveheart (I can not blame you) might see More Music from Braveheart as an interesting purchase, but it isn't the kind of present that will cheer people up who found the original material more then enough. There isn't much newly spectacular music, it all suffices and it will sell the hard earned buck but that's it I'm afraid. For more music it disappoints but for a listening experience far away from the movie, it gives you a boost. Who doesn't stand saluting when William Wallace cries out "FREEDOM"? It all brings a recollection to an extraordinary movie, an exceptional score and a tremendous experience on occasions, even More Music from Braveheart can deliver it with all the flaws and shortcomings.
