'You know, as a film composer one of the things that really gives the job some spice is to move around a lot, stylistically.'

Biography

Jeff Danna was born in Burlington, Ontario Canada and is the brother of the other equally successful composer Mychael Danna (Exotica, 8MM, Ride with the Devil, Bounce, Green Dragon, Heart in Atlantis, Ararat). He began with musical training early on and his professional career already exploited in his early teen years. However, through a hand injury his performing career ended abruptly and so Jeff threw himself into the composing business instead, and with success. He scored some Television movies early on, for instance episodes of Beverly Hills, 90210 and Kung Fu: The Legend Continues as movies like Still Life, Cold Comfort, The Boondock Saints and New Blood. It wasn't until O that Jeff was noticed seriously as a composer. Co work with his brother on Green Dragon led him further, but movies solo wise like The Kid Stays in the Picture and Kart Racer confirmed his status as composer. 2003 was his breakthrough year with The Gospel of John, gaining him attention with many fans before Resident Evil: Apocalypse proved wonderfully his versatility. Jeff also worked as musician (guitarist) on movies like Kama Sutra: a Tale of Love and Antwone Fisher, movies his brother scored to be exact.

The biggest difference was it’s less melodic writing compared to most of the writing I’ve ever done. It’s not so much about creating something beautiful as it is about creating something scary and impactful.

One of the things I enjoy about this genre is that there aren’t many limits musically. You can get pretty far out there in a sci-fi/action film musically.
