Biography

Born on September 13, 1924 in Lyon, France; Maurice Jarre graduated to become the arranger and conductor for the Jean Louis Barrault Theater Company. His first feature score was Hôtel Des Invalides in 1952. Ten years later he scored Lawrence of Arabia, that became one of the historical romantic epics of that time, and it resulted in his first Oscar. 3 years later another classic tale was scored by Jarre, Doctor Zhivago and the result was an Oscar and a Golden Globe for its score. It took him 19 years to repeat that success with A Passage to India, receiving again the double prices of the Academy and Golden Globe board. Other big names were El Condor, Red Sun, The Year of Living Dangerously, The Mosquito Coast, Fatal Attraction, Gorillas in the Mist, Dead Poets Society and Ghost. His more recent efforts contain the likes of A Walk in the Clouds (his fourth Golden Globe win), The Sunchaser, Sunshine (his latest nomination) and I Dreamed of Africa. Further he scored for Television Uprising, his latest score still. Maurice Jarre is a 3 time Academy and a 4 time Golden Globe winner.
