'I don't generally need a lot of time. I know how much music goes into it, I know how much time I have to write it, I know how much time I'll spend writing it.'

Personal quote

Not many rock guitarists have had the honor and pleasure to compose movie music, but Trevor Rabin has succeeded to stay in the successful music business of Hollywood movies. His obvious talent for scoring movies was questioned but soon forgotten after rather impressive efforts like Armageddon, Enemy of the State and Deep Blue Sea. Still, Rabin is also known as the legendary performer on the Rock group Yes and his electric guitar is found regular in his scores. Being a member often associated with Media Ventures is not correct since Rabin at times worked with the boys of MV, but never was a member of that organization. Rabin on the other hand remains busy, scores often normal to sub interesting action movies but his style remains the same, with electric guitars, fanfares, action stamps and sometimes the undisputed wonderful drama attempts like Remember the Titans and Jack Frost. Rabin is more then many people think he can be and often it are his moments in scores that do more overall then sometimes the entire score.

Biography

Trevor Rabin was born on January13 1954 in Johannesburg, South Africa. He started playing piano very early but fell in love with the electric guitar. He became a session musician and worked with several groups. He later became a member of the popular rock band Yes. His career in movie scoring started when he was asked to play the electric guitar in Twister. His music career in movies started from that point and he became a Media Ventures partner. His scoring assignments to date are The Glimmer Man, Con Air (collaboration between Mancina and Rabin after their first duo performance on Twister), Armageddon (one of his best scores), Enemy of the State (as on Armageddon a collaboration between him and Harry Gregson - Williams), Deep Blue Sea (that offered the same mood as Armageddon due to the choir and theme), The 6th Day, Gone in 60 Seconds and Remember the Titans. Rabin nonetheless kept pretty busy and scored westerns (Texas Rangers and American Outlaws), comedy (Kangeroo Jack), action mostly (Torque, Bad Boys II and Bad Company), horror (Exorcist: The Beginning), sport (Coach Carter) and adventure (National Treasure). The surprising non like The Great Raid and the sport dramas Glory Road and Gridiran Gang are his latest creations, amongst them too Flyboys and the culthit Snakes on a Plane. With the upcoming National Treasure 2 Rabin is continuing to sell himself successefully. Trevor Rabin is a successful tune smith and his scores usually carry a good theme, now only making the rest as good as that and he might break into the realm of the successful composers. Not the busy composer which he already is.
