What is Comenius?

In 2010 Comenius means to us:

• Higher motivation to learn foreign languages, basic skills and future competences of life. Our students visiting each other in school holidays is the perfect proof
• Improvement of social and language skills (not only English)
• Boost of our ability to work in teams, regardless of age differences, professional or religious backgrounds
• Definite improvement of ICT-knowledge (Oovoo, Skype, Publisher, Moviemaker, Snapfish, ...)
• Rise of self-confidence among teachers thanks to guest and ghost teaching experiences as well as a higher motivation to learn and develop new subject matters to use in our classrooms

History or the present?

John Amos Comenius (1592 – 1671) was a Czech teacher, educator and writer. Among others he is known for his book "Janua linguarum reserata" (Gate to Languages Unlocked) and he is seen as the father of modern pedagogics.

Today Comenius is part of the European Community's Lifelong Learning Programme which seeks to promote cooperation and mobility among educational staff and to strengthen the European dimension in education.

Comenius also wants to develop knowledge and understanding among young people from different European cultures, speaking different languages.

Helping youngsters to acquire basic life skills and competences for their personal development, future employment and an active European citizenship is the ultimate goal for school management and teachers working as a team.
