Welcome to the homepage of Stef Van Vlierberghe.
My wife and I have spent many happy vacations with walking as main
activity, and in general we try to get away as far as possible from
mass tourism by booking a flight and renting a house separately.
- In Tenerife we enjoyed staying at Finca
Banderas,
the pool (visible on an MP4 movie) is small but warm (solar-heated),
nice garden, ping-pong table,
fireplace, with a nice view in the barranco, the sunny climate, 1 hour
from the Teide, Granadilla in walking distance, a very
cozy place.
- In Crete we appreciated the hospitality of a Kostas Kallergis during an
excellent stay at Villa
Christos, a gorgeous villa
on the slope of a beautiful gorge near Rethymno, an excellent location
if you like
walking. Also had a nice stay with family in the very nice large Villa Catani
(with 14m pool).
- In Portugal we liked a beautiful design cottage (restored
watermill), last house of the street, well-hidden in the small,
unspoiled Rio Ave valley in
northern Portugal (quite unique setting) : Casa
Moinho Da Porta.
- In Madeira we can recommend Casa
Belflores and Quita
d'Alegria, two neighbouring hourses above Funchal and below Monte.
The casa is smaller but immersed in flowers, the quita has a 10m heated
pool, both cosy places in a quiet neighbourhood. Also had a pleasant
stay at Casa
Rochinha, a house neighbouring the levada in Arco da Calheta (in
the south-west), and another in Quinta
Sabino in Caniçal (in the south-east).
- In Gran Canaria we liked El
Molino, in San Nicolas (East), very peaceful (others criticise that
time stood still here, we like it that way ;-).
- In La Palma we appreciated Casa
Rosa, in El Paso (Central) and Casa
Pilar in El Punto (North-West).
As a software engineer I am convinced robust software should be written
in Ada
(thanks to ACT the language is
standard freely available in Linux
distributions as part of gcc). The most convincing testimony I find Markus Kuhn's home
page, and if that appeals to you, then check out http://www.cs.kuleuven.ac.be/~dirk/ada-belgium
and the Ada
Information Clearinghouse.
