[official website]
Influenced by bands like Suicide and Deutsch Amerikanische Freundschaft
and the UK electronic scene, Dirk Ivens appears from 1980 on under
the name Absolute Body Control on several compilations. The first
single "Is there an exit?" became a local underground hit.
The line-up changed very soon but with Eric Van Wonterghem, Dirk finds
himself a partner for the next coming years regarding mixing, producing
and collaborating.
[notes on "Eat this"]
Formed early 1980 by Dirk Ivens (synths and voice) and joined by
Mark De Jonghe (synths) and Veerle De Schepper (backing vocals).
After a track on the Blitzpop 1 compilation album and the single
"Is there an exit?" which became a local culthit, Mark
leaves the band. But his place is already taken by Eric Van Wonterghem.
Absolute Body Control plays a lot live and is inspired by bands
like Blancmange, DAF, Suicide and The Human League, to become one
of the first Belgian electronic groups who is also succesful on
stage.
After the release of the tape "Absolute Body Control"
Dirk and Eric decided to go further as a duo and in the next three
years they recorded the tapes "Numbers", "Live"
and "Tracks". They also appear on many compilation products
worldwide.
In 1984 Dirk became a founding member of The Klinik, followed by
Eric but the latter left after the 2nd album to form Insekt. The
rest is Belgian pop history.
